Deer eating my corn.

Is there anything I can do to stop this next time?

 

Those bastards eat everything in my yard. I have to spray everything with Bobbit Deer Repellent after every rainfall
I just scared these babies away

 

Very high fencing...or wait until hunting season

 

I used fence around my garden.

They would just stand there wishing they could get in.

Keep growing the corn then eat the deer!

 

Growing a garden here, without any deer fence, is like setting up tables full of candy, ice cream and cake, then letting a dozen 3rd graders in unsupervised.
It’s not really fair to be upset with the deer. I agree it’s frustrating and devastating to see our crops being eaten but we took the initiative and put up some decent fencing.

 

Try cutting up bars of Irish Spring soap and spreading throughout the garden. It’s supposed to spook them. But on the other hand I have heard of hunters hanging bars of the soap they use and dryer sheets to get deer used to their scent. So idk but it’s a cheap remedy

 

Good ol' fashion scarecrow?

 

Looks to me like raccoon damage, not deer. Coons will climb up the stalk until it falls over then eat the corn from the ground. Deer are tall enough that they can walk up to the stalk and eat the top of the ear without knocking down the stalk.

 

I have heard human hair keeps them away. Go to your barbar an get clippings and spread around the garden.

Otherwise you need 8 foot fences to keep them out. They will clear a 6 foot fence with enough room.

 

When I get home I'm going to check out my camera I think your right about this for sure. What sucks is all the fields of feed corn around here and they choose my sweet corn of course

 

Eat the Deer

 

They have good taste! But trust me, they're eating some of the field corn too - it's just not as noticeable.

 

If you have dogs, let them pee in the area. Sounds weird, but works like a charm. I used to have a problem with the deer sleeping in my flower bed and eating the shrubs, etc. About once a month I walk the dog out front, and he pees around there. It stopped completely.

 

Ny father in law used to grow sweet corn under a Cotton Trotting trailer haha. Welded a door on the side. Unfortunately now it’s part of his chicken taj mahal

 

Yes there is a simple trick. Make your own scare crow OR spread some milorganite every few weeks. We do both. Deer hate the smell of it but it’s just fertilizer that can be found anywhere. We do this process at our hunting leases when we first plant iron clay peas and other things so the deer will leave them alone until they get too tall for the deer to mow them down.

For the scarecrows we just make a stick figure out of 2x4’s and then hang a smelly shirt and pants on it and then tie strings to the arms with a CD tied to the end. Finish it off with a small solar powered light directly in front on the ground to make the Cd’s shine at night as they spin around in the wind. Deer will think there’s a disco going on in your plot.

 

Electric fence keeps the deer and the Coon out.

 

By the looks of the corn with a stock being broke over I would say that is a coon getting into your corn.

 

Yep it is I caught 2 of them on my security system I was trying to find a way to post it but cant seem to do it. But it was kinda funny to watch .Even though it pissed me off. Lol

 

Yeah usually anytime the cornstalk is broke over it's a coon. Coon will just destroy a corn patch. On the bright side they do not like electric fence.

 

The only issue with that is I would have to make sure it's off anytime my son is out side he is only 4 and high functioning autistic so he would be all over that. Well maybe just once.

 

Coon and deer are hell on Sweet Corn. Everyone I knew that grew acres of the stuff used electric fence. Coon will climb the fence so you can sit and wait for them, or,,,, live trap after you put up a high fence or use the electricity!!. Good Luck

 

You can just plug it in at night. That's usually when the Coon show up.
