So last Friday I was driving my 2001 Tundra down the highway and out of no where it cut off on me. I towed it to my shop and it would not start anymore. It had no signs of anything wrong with it besides the 02 sensors that have been out for more than a year. The battery is still good, fuel pump is good, I've got no idea. It's been at a toyota dealship over the weekend and they have been looking at it since 10:00 this morning. (currently 4:15pm) They said they have yet to figure out what it is that's causing it not to start. Anyone have any ideas?

That's what I want it to be, but I need to get something out if that truck. I cant find any 2001s for sale so an actual price that isnt an auction price is hard to come by

Any idea how much a dealer would charge to fix it?

That is if it didn't destroy the engine. These are interference engines, a broken or slipped timing belt that slipped far enough destroys valves, pistons and heads in most cases. If it just slipped a little or broke at just the right time you may be lucky and have no damage but its highly suspect if that is indeed what happened.

Also could just be an ECU fuse or something but I assume that has already been checked.

It would depends on exactly what happened. A compression test would determine any valve damage etc. If it's bad enough the engine won't even turn over.

I checked all the fuses and they are all good. I did hear a small clicking before it happened. Was happening about a week before it failed on me.

I doubt that is the problem. It would have made lots of noise doing the damage described above. Diagnosis should not be too hard. Internal combustion engines need 3 things to function; fuel, air and a spark. Which one is not there?

The basics of checking an engine that don't start are to check for fuel, spark, air and timing, those are the four things an engine needs to run. You check for the presence of each one until you find what you are missing. Pulling a spark plug and looking for spark, pulling a fuel line and checking for fuel, taking off the timing belt cover and checking timing.

It's a shopper used for small engines and some trucks, but not to much. I've read the codes and it was just O2 sensors so I dont know. The dealership was supposed to call me by 7pm but never did

If you checked the fuel pump and that is working then it sounds like a spark related issue.

Did you check to see if it had spark before you sent it to the dealer?

Nice. Really enjoyed researching some other stuff on other sites. I’ll do it all over again when the hair strikes me.
