    2006 Tundra SR5
Planning a truck build for after my house is built
    Hey guys!

I'm here from South Carolina to start doing some research for my build. I currently have a 2006 Tundra SR5 2WD (why didn't I get the 4x4...LOL) that I bought new and got a HECK of a deal (oh yeah that's why i got 2WD).

We recently bought 20 acres with my parents and are in the process of clearing the land and getting ready to build 2 houses on our new homestead. My father and I are doing pretty much all the work ourselves, so it's a ton of fun. Once our house is complete, and I get a little money built back up, I will start an overland/expedition rig using a new Tundra.

I am here to learn from you guys and narrow down exactly what I want to do.

    Intended us of the truck:
It will be a daily driver (but I generally won't have to drive far from the homestead so that's not an issue). It will haul us camping in the back country, be a hunting rig, get us out kayaking, etc. I just want something that's capable in most environments I would put it in (within reason).

From the research I've done, I think I've narrowed some mods to the following:

    Tundra 5.7L SR5 4x4

    Front Bumper -
Expedition One Range Max Front Bumper - With Hoop
    OR
    ARB Summit

    Lights for the bumper:
    Either ARB Intesity
    OR
    Baja LP9

    Rear Bumper:
    Expedition One

    Skids:
RCI full coverage in Aluminum (I don't plan on rock crawling)

    Bed:
Snugtop Sport with either Expedition One, Front Runner, or Eezi Awn rack (on shell and cab)

    Winch:
    Warn Zeon 12-S

    Questions:
I want steps/sliders that are functional and will hold the truck if I set it down on something unexpectedly, but want it to be a step as well for my wife who is 5'8'' (I'm 6'4''), and our son as he gets older (due Nov 1st.). What would you guys recommend?

    Suspension/Lift?
Once the stock tires wear out I will most likely upgrade the suspension and lift it a little. I just want a moderate lift (2-3"). I've been looking at OME, Icon, King. Recommendations?

What do you guys see that I've left out, what would you change, and what other recommendations do you have for me?

Again, I'm not in a hurry for this build, it will start coming together in a couple years, but I like to plan, do my research, and know what I'm getting into. I don't want to just throw money away, but at the same time I don't mind spending money on quality.

Thanks and I look forward to learning from you guys!

Welcome from Colorado. I liked my OME setup. You will get 2.5" to 2.75" depending on which coil you go with taking into consideration of the additional weight of the E One bumper and Zeon.

Planning a truck build for after my house is built
Thanks everyone! Seems like a great place to hang out.

    Thanks, that's good to know.

    Thanks, I'll check them out.

Haha, yeah probably. Unfortunately, we just bought my wife a new Cherokee because her car was on it's last leg, we have a newborn on the way, and I'm building this homestead while trying to stay debt free. So, I'm trying to play it smart, plan accordingly, get my savings built back up, and then start spending on myself.

Maybe the Gen 4 will have a nice diesel offering...

    Howdy! I'm in G'ville/Sptbg area.

Hahaha it's going to be tough for sure! I'm at zero dollars in expendable money until the house is done, so I don't have to worry about it right now. After the house is complete....hmmmm...that might change LOL
