Hello, I just purchased a 2007 Tundra v8 4x2 with 39k miles. It was driven on avg 2k to 6k a year by a retired guy and his wife, has carfax reports with dealer maintenance. It was parked outside this whole time so the roof, roof sills and hood has clear coat peeling and light rust. I plan to get the faded parts of the truck painted asap.

So I joined to try to modernize the truck a bit, wondering about motorized side steps, possible new head light housing because mines faded/yellowing, new dash/entertainment center and possible alarm system that can give me keyless entry? Does such things exist? I have been out of the modification scene for quite some time so a lot of research is in stored for me. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anything I need to watch out for on this year truck?

    Edit: 2007 lol

Welcome from Colorado. Surprised there is clearcoat issues...Is your Tundra white? The white Tundra paint finish is not up to snuff and if not regularly taken care of....there can be issues...need pics! BLAAAAACK!

Nice find. That's really low mileage but how the hell you getting rust in SoCal?

The white Tundras are known to be lacking the full clearcoat finish since so many are sold as fleet trucks.

I lived in Santa Barbara for 10+ years. I have an 03 Sequoia that's lived its life there and never seen a garage. Unless you drive on the beach, in the wet sand, rust is a non issue. Just kind of weird

The coast is actually really easy on the paint. I moved to Bakersfield 2 years ago, now I worry about it sitting out in 100+ degrees and frosty winters.
I bought a house with a 3 car garage that barely fits my truck lol

Yeah, a 2017 to have clearcoat issues seems to be a bit premature no matter what color...but we don't even know the color yet...

A Taco, maybe not taken care of. Not a common occurrence I'm thinking. Sucks of course if there is premature clearcoat failure. Just not seeing enough complaints here about that.

Yeah, I see some pretty beat up paint jobs from people who park outside. I'd like to get it in the garage but its too big for the 3rd car garage and it won't fit next to the Tundra in the 2 car. Oh well...

Sun is very damaging for sure but the coast has salt air. After living in Orygun for 13 years, I saw plenty of rust damage on trucks that weren't cared for properly.

My BIL, long retired from Southern Cal Edison, last job was responsible for all the SCE properties in Kali. He had a huge problem to deal with in Huntington Beach. The local SCE power plant was emitting enough pollutants to damage boat paint, car paint, etc. Huge multi $$$ million dollar settlement to cover losses. That's why I go by>>>>>"It's best to not paint with broad strokes unless you're painting a barn..."
Too many environmental factors come into play no matter where you live...........

It's like a...green color? IDK, I don't like the color personally but the miles were so low I wanted it.

Super low miles. Definitely a nice find. You scored there big time. Lots of potential upgrades you can do. I was only joking about white paint. Our Tundra's are so good....the only thing left is to diss paint color, and that is tongue in cheek. I had a Slate Grey Metallic 07 and used to really diss BLAAAAACK Tundra's. I now have a BLAAAACK Tundra! Go figure...heh...heh:thumbsup:

Sounds like you have Timberland Mica. A nice color actually IMHO! Post some pics of your clearcoat issues. We have a detailing expert here that might be able to possibly help, but depends how far gone your clearcoat is.... @War Machine

    Welcome from NorCal,

It's not the color gents, it's actually the paint materials it's self. That's been my experience. Painted cars trucks boats planes bikes and some lawn mowers...lol some 25 years  ~^^~
