    I've got a couple of rail mounts from Rocky Mounts. I had them on my Tacoma, but I have a cover on my Tundra so I need to see if I can mount them on my side rails because I have to take my cover off to use them on the front rail.

    I use the Rocky Mount hot rod. Keep two on the rail and a Kuat hitch rack when shuttling that can take 2 more bikes.

    I'm also on the search for a new way. I'll run a blanket over the tailgate or loose in the bed for short trips. I also have a RockyMount on the factory rail and a hitch mount. I dont really like any of them. They all have pros / cons. I hate installing and removing the hitch mount. The RockyMount on the rail now interferes with my tonneau cover. The blanket over the tailgate or loose in the bed aren't secure enough for longer trips. I wish someone would make a nice tonneau cover compatible rack that is low profile and allows for full opening / closing of the tonneau.

    After reading this thread, I started researching because I want to head back out to Colorado in a couple years with my bike again and would need my tonneau cover. I'm looking at maybe attaching some Thule tracks or similar to my bed rails and building from there. Basically something like this. [​IMG]

    You won't be able to open the cover with it on, but it is very simple to take it on and off. Now, I'm just looking at some cheaper options. The cost starts adding up fast.     That’s cool looking! I built a wooden version of this in a past truck. The only thing I didn’t like about it is having to jump in and out the box bed every time for shuttling. I love the way bikes look standing up in a bed though. Nice looking product.

    Yea, I'm looking for a in-bed solution that doesn't require wheel removal.

    Don't have one of those but they have made the short list of options that I have been looking at for in the bed with front wheel still on. The only other solution I have seen that I like is the Ride 88 rack....they are pricey but look to be the best option and they can mount to the OEM bed rail system as well.

    I have never understood the tailgate pad. It seems to be really popular, what are the benefits of a tailgate pad and why would you use it over other options. Not trying flame, I truly am curious. It seems it would be harder to load.

    It is WAY easier to load. No straps, no ratchets, no NOTHING. Pick it up and put it down... that is the whole process. Take about 3 seconds.. Seriously, 3 seconds!

    -Cheaper.
    -light weight
    -Simple, anyone can install and use.
    -Can take off your truck and put on your buddy’s truck in 2 minutes without tools if need be.
    -Doesn’t get in the way of anything else really when not loaded, so can leave it on.

    But best of all you get biker bro high fives cause you look like a biker all the time...

    One thing to note based on my experience with tailgate pad; if you line up bikes like sardines you risk damage from adjacent bikes. I realize some people don't care about this. This can be mitigated but putting some cushion/padding between bikes but that cuts into the convenience of a tailgate pad. Spacing them out also works but cuts into the amount of bike storage.

    Just wanted to point out a negative with the tailgate pad.
