Is there a way to use deactivate the radar safety feature and still use cruise control. Like the reader auto braking thing is stupid.

May want to break out your manual and read a little bit before you drive it.
It is as simple as pressing a button

Not sure on the Tundra because I have a 2017. I know on my wife's Pilot you can deactivate it so I would think there is a way but not 100% sure.

Figured it out. It isn’t as clear as it stated in the manual... hence why I asked the forum... You have the radar button distance. And your you have to hold your cruise control down to de activate it. 3rd Toyota. Never had anything else on that cruise control lever but cruise options..... maybe just help people on this forum next time or choose not to answer at all.

This is a fine way to get off to a rough start. Keep it civil and you may be amazed at how helpful people are on this forum.

OP he was just messing around I'm sure. But on my wife's 2018 camry it is activated with just a press of a button. It's on the dash I hate it because it slows you down alot when you dont need it to do so.

If you use it, still pay attention. I don't trust anything automated when it is driving me.

I was using it on an interstate and had an interchange coming up to get on another interstate. Traffic very light.. It was a Y overpass in the road. Radar had been holding me up because of a guy I was behind. I didn't want to pass because the interchange was coming up. Well he takes the exit too and puts on his left blinker. I am going right and my immediate thoughts are "this sumbitch (cruise control) is going to floor it as soon as the guy peels off left". I get my foot hovered over the brake and sure as shit, the radar paid NO attention to the fact that I was going into a sharp curve. It floored it trying to resume my 75mph in a turn that was 55.

    Pay attention to it. There

You are correct that attention is needed, but the radar slows you down for other cars you are pacing. Not road conditions. If that car was never there and you never braked or shut it off, it would have happily taken you into the turn at 75mph. But that car was slowing your radar into the curve instead of your driver input.

I know it is not watching road conditions, but I would at least think that the concrete guard rail that was in front of it would be seen as an object as the road curved. I guess they had to dumb it down to make it usable a majority of the time.

Yeah, im sure its a "simple" program on the computer. Otherwise that kind of intelligence is pretty much like the Tesla autopilot.

no experience with Toyota radar cruise, but I hate it in my wife's BMW. Let me preface this with I do not tailgate. However, the radar cruise leaves so much room between you and the car in front of you that other drivers see this as an open invitation to change lanes and get in front of you. Then, naturally, the radar slows you down due to the decreased distance between you and the "new" car in front of you. It's so frustrating.

Actually the design is pretty brilliant. It didn't slow you down for the "Wall" or "Guardrail" ahead because you started turning your wheels. It factors in what's ahead of you and where you are going. If you would have never turned the wheel then hopefully the safety feature would have kicked in at that point. .. then again anything can fail.

I absolutely love this feature. Just used it for the first time last weekend while following a buddy up to his camp, I thought the whole experience was friggin sweet!! Worked as advertised
