When you bring it in for service, do you allow them to do the complimentary wash? I've heard cons of their wash machine. What's your take on it?

I've never encountered a problem at McCords Vancouver Toyota with their car wash. They vacuum and wash at no cost.

I've already got 3 scratches from their wash... I tell them not to run it thru every time now.

Its just like any other auto wash thing. You will get light scratches all over the truck. Not really scratches but light swirl marks or lines in the clear coat. Only really noticeable in the darker colors.
Same thing you will see at any car wash (except the no touch ones).

I agree. If my truck was silver I would use automatic washes, but its black, so no auto washes. Touchless or hand wash only.

I used to work at a Toyota dealership and the wash was nicknamed the "scratch and scrub".

    Mines white...

Since I'm on a tught time restraints this entire week, they offered to vacuum and armorall the tires for $10...so screw it, might as well.

Found 3 small rock chips in the windshield ....my insurance will let them repair it free...

    Check out that grill...

That truck has a $52k tag on it. Only upgrades are KatSkinz, wheels, lift, tires, grill.

That is a Rigid Industries grill. I hear they make great LED's, but from what I heard of that grill it is not worth the money. I haven't seen it in person so I have to rely on the internet, which is never wrong. Apparently you need to retrofit the grill by cutting your original grill. Their web page does say you need to modify your original grill. Seems like a lot of work for an $800 grill, plus the LED lights are extra. Not worth it IMHO.

Well that was a change of topic. I added the grillcraft grill and had to cut the center of the existing grill out and relocate the hood release. Not too bad but took some time. Not the best spot for the expensive lights though.

I'm really I won't be taking my Tundra through any car washes. Only hand wash. I'm concerned that my Plasti-dip work would scratch off with the car wash brushes.

I noticed my Blk Out Badges on the front letters on the side started to show chrome. So hood choice I will be redoing them but with plastidip this time I stead of the other stuff I used.

    I painted mine...

It's super easy. Just take off the badge, apply a few layers of plastic spray paint, (I picked up black that Toyota uses from Autozone) add some double sided tape and re-apply.

My Tacoma had plastidip on the wheel caps and rear bumper. No problems with it in car washes. Lasted till I sold it, few years at least.

I sprayed 4 layers on the badges. Makes it easier to clean up and peel around the badge.

Had dealer wash it today when I was in for service. They did a good job. I checked it over after we left and didn't see any scratches.

With so many places gratuitously slapping "No Car Washing/Maintenance Allowed on Property" and "Water Usage" restrictions down, it's a real PITA to have a regular place to get a quality wash nowadays.

That having been said, there is a pretty informative post on the sister Tacoma World forums regarding detailing tips and tricks.

Bumping an old thread while searching for something else.
I was told their wash machine is useless for a lifted truck.

    Anyone else?

I always take it to the dealer/shop all cleaned up. I think they take better care of it if they see you take care of it. But maybe I'm nuts, I'm not taking the free oil changes either.

I'm staying away from the touch washes... Has anyone tried touchless washes? Any ill effects on those?
