2016 100k Mile report

Just thought to share, not an all inclusive list. Nov will be 4 years of ownership on the truck, so figure 3.5 years to 100k and still rolling. I actually hit 100k like a month ago so I'm late, it's whatever. I should also mention (edit) I bought the extended 100k mile warranty with this truck, I never used it.



Stats:
- Crew Max(?) cab, the one with 4 doors
- 6 inch (Pro Comp) lift, 35's, bumpers and stuff **edit: I swapped from the 3 inch block that came with the kit to a 4 inch block, it looks better IMO**
- Exhaust, forgot which brand, cold air intake, also forgot (starts with an A), it's been a while **edit: air filter is an AFE non oiled filter I clean once a year**
- Winch, I've used it twice **edit: 12k SB winch, and I pulled out 2 Subaru's**
- Interior full of German Shepherd hair
- Live at 8500', lots of dirt road and mountain driving, trails and such
- Hybrid. Runs on gas, step on the peddle, runs on even more gas
- Edit: Forgot I added the Viper remote start deal which replaced the OEM key fob, it's money in the winter when I have a foot of snow or more on the truck

Repairs and Maintenance:
- Oil change and tire rotations every 5k for sure
- Slacked on some of the other fluids but got them squared away
- Replaced alternator in driveway (buried at the bottom of the motor FYI) at around 75k, it was a weird situation, on my 3rd battery
- Maybe 4th or 5th windshield? #colorado
- 3rd set of brakes (oem / powerstop)
- 3rd set of AT2's
- Cabin filter x1

Overall:

It's been a great truck, I hope 100k turns into 200 and 300 over the years. I got a nice Weatherguard job box and that was one of the nicest mods I have. I rarely tow but do use the bed quite a bit. Recently I filled the bed with wood and pulled a trailer with about a cord in it, we were chopping down trees for winter and such...the truck does nicely. Truth be told the lift with the big tires and heavy bumpers (Fab Fours) probably detract from the practical performance but shit...truck looks better and on some of those trails the ground clearance is nice. The thing gets a detail once a year, probably washed 3-5 times beyond that. It's not for showing off as damn never everyone up here has trucks but the big cab and the bed do make it practical for everyday use. If there was one thing I would change it would be the horrible MPG but you gotta pay the cost to be the boss I suppose.

I think my next addition will be a light bar on the bumper or something, we get some really bad fog up here and the headlights are worthless but other than that it's solid.

edit: looking at suspension upgrades as well, thinking Pro Comp Coilovers in the front and whatever their best brand of shocks are for the rear.

Yea they last around 45k I've noticed, was getting some squeal and such. I use the gears as much as I can but up and down the mountains at 65-80 mph all the time just wails on them I guess.

 

Great report and thank you. I have a lot to look forward to in my case. I’m still at 10,700 on my 17.

We have three other vehicles that do all the dirty work. So the Tundra is dedicated for short trips and off road.

 

Why so many windshield repairs?

 

Mountains = rocks
Trees = logging trucks

 

Awesome report. My 2016 is sittin pretty at 53k and zero brake jobs. Then again I don't live in a high elevation, drive like a grandpa, and brake like a great grandpa.

 

@Snowboard Tundra great report what about your rear Differential fluid? Have you changed it and at what point did you change it? What condition was it in?

This^ I've gone through 4 windshields and had many more repairs beyond that, always rocks. My current windshield has 2 repairs on it, my wife's CRV was new in Jan and has had 2 rock repairs already. I have it down to a science, if I need it replaced I call the glass shop and they tint my windshield in advance (50% Ceramic on the inside with a top black stripe of 5%), then I go get it installed.

Confessions. I have an appointment later this month, all the fluids. Both diffs, Xfer case, tranny, brake fluid, coolant. First time for everything, hopefully it's not a train wreck in there.

Ok so the first one took a dump a couple years back, maybe it wasn't doing well but I left the truck parked in extreme cold and it was done. Then last year I was having issues, got the truck tested and it said bad alternator and bad battery. That's when I replaced both...I'm still not sure it was the alternator but since then there have been no issues.

 

At this rate I hope to keep the truck 10 years which will mean 350K or so on the clock, as long as it's still running great I'll keep pushing it. By then new trucks will be 150k off the lot with 10 year loans and stuff....not looking forward to that. Maybe I'll be the guy who buys that Platinum F450 Dually who never tows anything. LOL

 

How’s the paint and clear coat?

I always see awesome looking 2nd gens with great paint. I hear the 3rd gens have less paint and clear coat thickness and they have enough to take 10+ polishes/details like the 2nd gen.

 

Paint seems good. As previously stated I get a clay bar and wax/polish done once a year by a shop because the sun is harsh AF up here, overall besides big rock chips it looks great.

Bought my 2014 used in March 2017 with 31k. I thought I drove alot till I discovered this forum lol compared to most people here I barely drive
