Installing TRD front sway bar, 4 of 6 backing nuts broke loose. How screwed an I

    Yep, my 6 Maine winters Tundra has really handed me a doozy. Watched the videos, set everything up, started removing the bolts, get about halfway removed, then they start to spin freely. Tried another, same. One is on a link, the others on the frame.

    Harden steel bolts will be hard to remove plus how would you get the backing nuts set in place?

    The end of the bolt has a hex head. Stick an Allen wrench in it so it doesn’t spin (for the link anyway).

    Which other bolts are spinning? The ones that hold the bracket that surrounds the bushings on the sway bar?

    If the bracket bolts are just spinning then the tack welds broke on the backing nuts. Can you wedge a wrench or a screwdriver into the exposed threads and pull down to get some downward pressure and then try to unbolt? Otherwise bust out the grinder with a cutoff wheel

    Does anyone know what size the backing nuts are on the suspension links? I can get a wrench on it but nothing seems to fit?

    Actually which side of the end link are you referring to? Sway bar side or LCA side?

    This is the driver's side bracket. No wonder the welds broke. Looks like I will be cutting these off along with the other side.

    Now the question is how do I secure the new backing nuts? I do not have a welder.

    If you can fit a regular nut in there the. Just do that with a lock washer.

    Also look into getting some fluid film and coating your frame.

    These will be a lot tougher, no room to maneuver. If the dealer stocks these, I will just cut them.

    Just wrapped up for the evening. Three bracket bolts had to be cut off. The bolts were too corroded so they literally stopped turning and broke the welds

    UPDATE: I purchased 2 new MOOG sway bar links. I was able to get the old links off the old bar by tightening and loosening the nut while applying pressure with a large flathead screwdriver and eventually a vice grip. I could have reused the links but figured-what the hell-clean sheet, everything else is new. Bracket bolts will be in tomorrow morning.
