Switch lighting question

    So my friend has two switches he has constant power to. Problem is, the backlighting for the switch remains on even though the accessory is off (and truck is off). Should he run the hot to the switch to an ignition power source to ensure it’s off with the rest of the truck? As long as power to the accessory is still connected to the constant hot, it should still work when the truck is off, correct?

    Does the switch have a dedicated backlight wire?
    Or does the power supply feed the backlight?

    I don’t think it does. There were two power leads: one to accessory and one to source

    Gotcha, then yeah the power needs to come from a wire that's only hot when the ignition is on.
    I had about 3 open fuses in my fuse box that were tied to the ignition, and have used fuse taps in them to save the trouble of splicing into a wire somewhere else.

    Yeah from that picture i'm not seeing a backlight-specific lead.

    Pull the jumper off of the #6 pin and see if the backlight goes out.

    If that jumper controls the backlighting, you can hook just that wire to an ignition source (or dash lights) for the backlight and leave the other wire hooked up where it's at.

    Exactly what @Squatting Pigeon said, take 1 of the hot wires off and find a wire that comes on when you turn your parking lights on, then he'll be able to see them at night. That's what I did with mine.
