AMP Research powersteps running boards

My Tundra came with the predators steps from the dealer, but lately I been considering upgrading them for the AMP research powersteps. I know they ain’t cheap , does any of you have them installed?what are the pros and cons? Im open to suggestions thanks!!!

 

I don’t have them yet, but should be getting them installed next week. After I lifted my truck I knew that I was going to have to have something that dropped down to help when I got out of the truck. BTW ...your truck looks badass!

 

I chose the powersteps because I like how low pro they are in my opinion it looks cleaner. Now if your doing alot of serious offroading you might want to think about sliders for protection.

Thats great , please let me know how you benefit from them after the installation. I have mix feelings about getting them. My truck is only leveled so I don’t know how it would affect the look. Thanks for the compliment After joining this forum my upgrade list keeps growing and growing lol.

 

That's a nice looking truck, thanks for the advise, I do go off-roading on the weekends but nothing too crazy. And yes the truck looks clean and I like the low pro view on yours.

 

What year is your truck? Only reason I ask is because when I went to get my steps I couldnt order the plug and play option wich was cheaper and easier install because I had a 2019 and at the time they only had the hardwired version available for it

 

Waiting on mine to show up for the 19, wouldn’t run anything but them. I love the clean look they provide, truck looks much higher with them vs other steps. My last pair from 2014 had a motor issue right around the 5 years mark and AMP sent me brand new motors for both sides and brand new running boards (minor finish wearing). My amps had almost 200k on them, I work out of my truck and drive it through mt, Id and wy daily and put it through hell. I give amp boards 5 stars!

 

Mine is 2018 I got it on October 2017 maybe I won’t have the same issue and be able to order that cheap version. I have spend crazy money at this point saving a little won’t hurt lol

Wasnt to much more only about 200. But every 200 counts when you keep throwing money at your truck.

Good looking truck, I always liked that color if it wouldn’t be for the extra package and upgrades on my mgm I sure would gone for the cement color. Is your truck lifted kr leveled?

I have them and they are the best! I would not do the plug and play. The hardwire is much cleaner and is not that difficult.
You can barely tell the steps are on there and they bolt right up to stock locations. I only have a 2" level on a true 35" tire and they are absolutely necessary to get in and out. They drop down to perfect height.

 

Ok brother it worth the money if you have ground clearance for offroading like I do but if your truck is lower to the ground like a leveling kit on 35s then I don't recommend them if you go offroad. The are not rock sliders there steps. Don't get me wrong I love them on my rig they work great and look even better but rocksliders there not.

 

Agree. I do not offroad at all however. 2 years in nw Ohio with no issues. I dd my truck.

 

I've got them on my '19 TRDP and love them. Agree w/ what folks have said about the low profile look vs. others steps which hang down. I drive off-road a bit, hunting, fishing etc. but not technical enough off-roading where I felt like I needed sliders. The wife and kiddo also love that it makes it so much easier to climb into the truck. Mine has the stock '19 TRDP Fox lift. Have heard nothing but good things about AMP and their customer service if you ever do run into problems but I've got buddies who've been running AMPs for years without any issue.

Only downside I notice beyond the cost, especially in the garage where the sound is trapped, they make noise when unfolding and folding. Hardly a big deal but it's still something I notice to a point that if I'm in the rear door then needing to go to the front door, I'm aiming to open the other door before the steps fold back up.

The steps are awesomest. Had them over a year now - they've worked flawlessly. Don't buy the override switch, though (sold separately). It's worthless. I wrote about it in another thread:

"I've had the powersteps for almost a year now - they're great. I was going to get the override switch, but changed my mind. Turns out, the override switch is moronic. The switch will only keep the steps up or down for 30 minutes or after turning off/on the engine, then they'll start working again when opening/closing the door (still not sure how that's possible if the switch is physically flipped...but whatever). That's moronic to me. If I want them up all the time, they should stay up all the time. Down all the time, they should stay down. A switch that only works temporarily for 30 mins or an engine restart is useless. I actually called AMP and asked them about it - lol it bugged me that much. They said it's a "safety feature." Which doesn't make much sense to me.

I've been throwing around the idea of just making my own switch. I'd make two switches - one for each side of the truck. The truck is lifted and personally I love jumping up in that thing. I never use the steps. I got them for passengers...especially my vertically challenged daughter. I'd keep my step up and hers down."

 

have the amp steps on my 16 pro, love them. there was no doubt about what steps i was putting on when i bought my truck. hate the look of traditional running boards, no real need for sliders so these were no brainers, especially if you have kids. been on for 2 years now, no issues. only thing i dot like is the amp brand lights, they suck. i replaced them with a set of led rock lights and they throw off much more light and the color is better too

 

I have them on my 18, had to hard wire them. I love them.

 

I have them. The previous owner had them installed on the truck. No major problems. Just a part (drive shaft on driver's side) that needed to be replaced and AMP was very helpful in facilitating the order of said replacement. People comment on them frequently. I appreciate not damaging my shins on protruding Nerf bars or predator steps. My shins are damaged enough from my mountain bike.

 

Nice truck. Looks similar to mine lol. Both of my trucks came without steps. I had them on my 1st truck about 5yrs. Took them off when I traded and bought new boards cause the longer truck. Shortly after putting them on, I had the spring driveshaft break on the driver side. Couldn't get parts, only option was to but whole motor assembly. So I made my own with 1/8' key stock. Anyways I love my steps. I like how they are not hanging in lala land like stationary steps. Put them on my wife's 4runner too.

 

I bought mine used on CL. The guy traded in his truck and took them off. Had the original box and receipt from 2009. They were older, and apparently the new ones have a different style motor now, but they worked fine. I brought them home, cleaned them up, re-greased all the gears and moving parts. Worked great.

Just pointing this out incase anyone is wondering about longevity. 10 years of daily driving and they work just as good as my buddy's new ones.
