As a truck driver with a load, i'm super paranoid and secure it well. Last thing I want to do is kill someone! Unfortunately not everyone we share on the road thinks the same.

I would for a complaint with his PR anyways. You shouldn't have to make a that to file a complaint for him to do his job properly. Officers like that piss me off and make the rest of us wearing a badge and uniform look like shit.

I'm LE as can be, but I'm also pro common sense and reality. I realize jurisdictions are different and PD policies are different, but this smells funny. Had almost this exact incident with my wife with a tow strap off a trailer. Wife had all info, and refused to send leo out to talk, went later and they said too busy, went next morning and they tried to send me away. Asked for OIC and they denied, then I clarified asking if they were going to refuse a citizen the request to speak to a Sgt. or OIC? They changed their mind and I finally reported info. They still failed to complete a proper state report and effectively screwed me (as I'm not wasting time and energy with SC court).
Cop shops/leos are like any other businesses- some are great while others have no idea what they're doing. I like to think that most have good intentions though -- but your situation sounds suspicious @Tacogrande

I agree with the above on how it makes the rest of us look... but going to his Sarge might not gain traction, if you really want to rock the boat you need to talk to IA or OPS, whatever your local Dept calls Internal Affairs/Office of Professional Standards and initiate a complaint as they will dig deep and whatever they find will serve as a better lesson to the Officer. Untruthfulness is cause for termination in my Dept.

Problem is once it hits the road then it is road debris and a lot of insurance companies do not cover road debris.

My ex's niece was behind a oil field truck hauling pipe. A 8" pipe came off the truck and through her windshield. It went through her mouth. Closed casket funeral. She was only 22. Never heard the outcome of the lawsuit but guessing millions.

Since you got the correct result, a report and valid insurance claim, you are fine. It depends on where you live, but I live in a rural area with a small number of LEOs. I would let the LEO issue drop and hope that he learned his lesson from having a 'close call' on a complaint, and you get a reputation with him and his peers as someone who won't put up with nonsense but also won't cause unnecessary trouble.

Glad your wife is ok. A friend’s brother riding a motorcycle died that way. The audacity of that driver blaming your wife and the LEO handling the situation. She called for herself and to protect the public, he failed to do his job. I’d file a complaint anyway. Get A129 Duo dashcams, top rated, and high endurance microSD cards.

I was hit by a cute teen girl without her paperwork driving her parents' car. The cop gave her a couple days to turn her info into him at his station so he could give it to me rather than ticket her on the spot. Didn't make her home and get it on the spot or anything. Call it the 'Teen hottie' Special. It turned into over a week I'm driving around with a messed up vehicle waiting to hear something. She blew him off. He blew me off. I sent my insurance her plate number and a copy of the report. They told me to pay my deductible and go get my car fixed and they'd handle the rest. They traced the plate, told her company, who hadn't been notified yet, and when they reached out to her that was when she admitted to her parents she hit something. Either that or if she'd already told them, that was when her parents admitted liability. My insurance was reimbursed by her insurance including my deductible coming back to me.

Another time my Mom always talks about is getting hit with me in the car over 30 years ago by some teenage kid who begged her not to call the police and just told her to reach out to his dad. When she did so later the Dad acted like he had no clue what she was talking about and hung up on her, and that damage was never fixed.

I don't care if you're in a hurry. Nice guy, hot chick, scared teen who doesn't want to get in trouble with Mom and Dad. Priest on the way to church, Sweet old lady who wouldn't hurt a fly, whatever. I get a police report and cell photos of all your paperwork, then file informal notification to my company that I got hit. Any requests to leave cops out of it and just the two parties handle it on their own later is not entertained. If I am not contacted in a reasonable time and start to think you're blowing me off, I start the claim process on my end and get my vehicle fixed while the companies fight. I've seen people take their sweet time calling the insurance company while the other party has drive around a damaged vehicle and I've seen people screwed by leaving the cops out of it to be nice.

If that cop would have refused to write a report I would have told him I wanted a supervisor on scene, or else told him if he wasn't writing one at the scene I was going back to his district and reporting it on my own and explaining to whoever took it that the reason I was doing it that was the officer on scene refused.

Got a repair estimate. About $250 but then they add in code checks and alignment so the body shop wants to get us about $500.
Guys insurance says it will take another 3 to 4 weeks to get the police report. bs. So i call the officer and he says we have to call our insurance company to get the report. bs. So i call the police station and get the correct answer on how to get the report then i ask how long an officers body camera footage is stored. The woman claims she does not know. Then i say there is really questionable things the officer told my wife and she says she can not tell us anything about body cameras and that we will have to contact a lawyer. bs. I ask her to get someone in charge on the phone and she says no one is available. So in a large city there is noone in the entire station to answer basic questions and i told her i do not believe her. I asked when someone would be there. She got back on and said she found the answers. So my wife called and is being mailed the report and we are contacting the chief to file a complaint and have the body camera footage reviewed. I am sick of corruption and will not tolerate it at all.

Will wait to see the report before we file the complaint.

WOW, sounds like you're dealing with a combination of ineptitude, laziness, and deception everywhere you turn in this situation. Also sounds like you have enough determination to see it through and get it resolved. Sucks that you have to go to such effort to get professionals to do their jobs and get what's owed to you.

OK , my wife works for the City Attorney of Beaverton.
You can request (politely, and calmly ) any discovery materials regarding the case # this is recorded under.
This may include dash/body camera video, filed reports , etc.
It may help with the civil side of this situation.

Finally received the insurance check. It took everything I had not to file a complaint on the officer! He is a tyrant but I scared him into doing the right thing. I think it's safe to say a complaint would have been thrown in the trash. Cameras on the cops next time we deal them.
