Good luck finding another low mileage one though. Hopefully if you do it's got vvti.

Thanks for the info @FirstGenVol, I havent seen your other posts on it, I'll have to find them.

I havent had a chance to look at this any more with the long weekend, hoping to have some time tonight to get a voltmeter out and see if that sensor is picking anything up.

@NUDRAT, no sound from the front end, and no play in the wheel, dont think the wheel bearing is an issue. The sensor was missing its o-ring, but seemed to be sealed. I'll have to pull things apart first to see where those shavings are coming from.

Two projects over the weekend. 1) Fixing the parking brake, which was entirely useless when I bought the truck, and 2) cleaning up a rusty frame under the bumper.

For the parking brake, I had tried tightening the cable, but got to the end at both the pedal and the adjuster under the driver side door. Decided to replace the rear portion of the parking brake cable since it was stretched out. Also replaced the parking brake bell cranks. Other than some broken bolts that required getting drilled out, this was pretty. If you are having trouble with your parking brake and tightening the cable has not helped, check the bell crank. They get really nasty and then don’t transfer the cable tension force to the brake shoe.

    Old bell crank

    New bell crank

With the new cable I now have much better tension and room for future tightening. The only thing I am still waiting on are replacement bushings for the equalizer bracket, which seem to only have an oem option. Bushings should arrive Thursday, but the new cable already works great compared to the old droopy one. Replacing the bell cranks required removing the shoes in the drum, so I cleaned up both drum brakes and bleed the lines. After adjusting tension on the drum, parking brake now holds the truck in neutral on a steep hill.

    2) noticed rusty spots on driveway coming from under rear bumper. Pulled the bumper off to find the inside of the trailer hitch framing pretty rusty with some surface rust near the sides.
Chipped off and ground down the rust and did a por15 treatment on all the external parts. Inside is still pretty rusty but I can’t get the por15 in there so I will have to fluid film it or oil it up and keep an eye on it. The outside looks good for now.

New shoes and tires!! Trying out a new size 255/80 17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Expensive tires but wanted to try something new and didn’t want to do the typical 285s. These are sitting with no lift right now. Going the cheap route right now with the Rancho Quick lift front and rear. We will see how it turns out!

Hi forum! I've been reading this forum for a while now, and I've gotten some great ideas for my truck. I bought some aftermarket headlight assemblies and thought that I'd try out the Katana led bulbs. I have leds in my fogs for a year now with halogens in the headllights with no problems, but with the Katanas I have no fogs and the foglight switch just turns on the high beams. The Katanas have the resistor in the wiring, so I thought that would be enough. Any ideas or should I contact Katana and see if they have an answer? I searched the forum, but didn't see anything about this particular issue.

Contact Katana. You are the second person with a later model than my 2002 which has different headlight/fog/drl set ups. My suspicion is the drl separate bulb (tear duct bulb?) causing the problem, where 2002 headlights have just one bulb.

Also, I installed PerfectFit LED’s Fogs months prior to installing Katanas. When discussing with tech support at Headlight Revolution they said when both Fog and Headlamps are LED there is not a problem. I ordered HR Headlight bulbs but they were back ordered by 2 months. Someone here recco’d the Katanas and the reviews looked good. Some said they were the same bulb. A no brainer for a third of the price and they arrived in 2 days. They work well.

Post up your results so we can learn. I dislike recco’ing something and it not working well for others. Your feedback will help.

Horns are on my to-do list, may be a while though. I'm leaning towards a single semi truck horn, either a 26" or 29". Hopefully I can fit it somewhere up front, I want it to get your full attention and maybe a Hershey squirt

Rejuvenated all my door seals again with some PB Blaster with Silicone and Teflon. The seals were done once about 6 months ago and they fluffed back up giving a better/quieter in cab noise seal. Went ahead and doubled back up on them again and sprayed the seat belts (helps in retraction), as well.

Indeed i do have two in the bed, so removing this one went without question, and the two in the bed work well for fishing rod holders, due to the rims of course :)

I could be very wrong in this, so please forgive me if I'm incorrect.

Is it possible that the resistor you mention in the Katana is actually a ballast/power unit that helps with the headlight itself and not a true resistor? Instead of resisting some of the power back and causing your truck to believe it is drawing more power it is actually just sending the power through in an efficient manner to the bulb and protecting it?

I bought a plug and play resistor for less than $10, I have yet to use it, but from my research I have found that only 1 resistor is needed on 1 headlight, but I forget which headlight.

Thanks for the reply, Professional Hand Model! When I read your experience with the Katanas, I thought I'd give it a try. I suspect that you're correct, that it has something to do with the small 'teardrop' DRLs. The new headlight housing doesn't have those, because they're the black ones. With the halogens in, everything works. The LEDs in the fogs aren't the ones that you have... just cheap ones that I found on ebay. Anyway, I'll contact Katana and see if they have any ideas. I'll troubleshoot it myself in the meantime, and I'll get back to the forum with my progress, or lack thereof...lol!

My issue is in the front but this could still be a possibility. What did this end up costing you to fix?

Thanks for chiming in 00TundraZ! What you're saying makes sense, based on fact that, with the halogens in, everything works. I'll contact Katana and see what they have to say about it. Picking up an inline resistor would be a simple solution. I won't get around to it right away, as next week I'm installing Toytec Boss coilovers and a few other parts in the front end, but if and when I find a solution, I'll report back, lol! Thanks for the input!

Katana LED bulbs showed up today. Just waiting on the new housings. I installed the passenger side bulb just to check function. What a pain in the ass. LOL. Definitely going to be easier when I swap the housings out. Anyways, it appears that I have full DRL, low beam and high beam function.

Another option to test before install is just unplug the old and plug in the new ones off to the side and run them through their courses. I did this just to make sure before installing for a fail. The 2002 drl and low beam are the same brightness (before halogens were half intense drl compared to low beam) so thats good news on you having the dim drl function.

You’ll wrestle a bit with the dust rubbers, but good thing is you’ll be working with new housings on the work bench. Take your time. I’ve read some reviewers cut their dust covers and I think its because they are lazy or not good with their hands.

2022 CrewMax TRD Off Road, MGM of course.
Wish I would have done that! LOL. The dust cover was a bitch. I managed to get it out though. Pretty sure if my hands were any bigger I would have had more of an issue.

I'm really looking forward to getting them installed. Gonna be a late night when I do it though, since I want to be able to test and aim them. Sunset is around 1030pm here this time of year and there's usually another hour or so until proper darkness. LOL
