I would start at 15 psi and see how it goes. I’ve aired down as low as 12 psi out there depending on the situation. In some places the sand gets pretty soft. Just use good judgement so you don’t risk unseating the bead.

Be careful out there, Pismo is fun but can also be very dangerous. If you have a chance go check out the drags and comp hill. It’s a good place to hang and watch the shenanigans. The stop sign at the end of the beach is also cool if you like watching unprepared people get stuck as the rising tide approaches

@vq35721 On the soft sand don't hit the brakes hard when you come to a stop, roll and the sand will stop you. Prevents sand from creating a monud infront of your tires and increasing the likely hood of digging instead of moving forward.
Also stop on a downhill when possible.

^ I've spent most my time in Pismo in a 2wd, only been out there once in my 4x4 and was just to camp for the night on a trip up north. I didn't air down that time and could feel it. Airing down will help tremendously for flotation keeping a wide contact patch to distribute your weight better to further prevent digging.
As mentioned before 15psi will work well.

@Sunnier it'd be worth the trip in Hulk after you get the power mods! It's a lot of fun blasting around in the sand. A locker will make it even more fun

Yeah, far for us. I've got friends in Bakersfield that go all the time... but that's the closest beach/ desert for that bunch of rednecks.

It's funny because my brother was telling me about Pismo yesterday and I was like man that sounds cool riding my truck on my beach and stuff but I didnt know it was way the shit out there 5 and a half hours. But it is definitely on my list because who knows how long before they shut that down for trucks.

That's exactly what he was saying is that they are gonna shut down the dunes so we should try to hit up Pismo before that is off limits to us too. I dont understand what the harm is, in some gosh darn enthusiasts trying to roll their trucks around in the dirt??

    ITS NOT FAIR!

My guess is, drunk or otherwise inconsiderate a:censored:s speed and rev through town at all hours, leave trash, drain area resources. Happens all over-- a few acting like cowboys passing through, ruin it for everyone. Same that's happened to every shooting range in SoCal. And our flower fields. We visited Iceland... same thing, some tourist visitors treat a place without regard for anyone but themselves, wreck it.

Anyway... yes we should do a run up there while we can. Have a ton of fun but leave it better than we found it... like we do. :blahblah:

It’s actually regarding the western snowy plover and air quality in Nipomo. California Coastal Commission has abused their power and now is attempting to implement a 30% immediate reduction in campers and no riding after sundown. Ultimate they are aiming to completely shut of OHV and all motorists from accessing the beach. This new push has stemmed from Trilogy Estates (sublet in Nipomo) that has complained about dust coming from the beach. Mind you they cleared an entire grove of native wildlife to build the homes and now are saying the dust in an issue (he irony here is that native plants hold the geological subsurface together, remove the plants and soil becomes dry and airborne).
oceano dunes has more than 3000 jobs directly associated with the SVRA and brings in an annual $243million to the tri-city area. Pair this closure attempt with the recent Diablo power plant closure and the area is looking at a $1 billion deficit.

Shitty times for off-roaders as if we lose this fight they will be after more areas in force. They are trying the same with Carnegie SVRA in northern cal too.

    Thanks for the insight Harley.

I was also under the impression it was a staffing issue. From what I read they are short on rangers because the pay as a SLO cop is better.

Doesn’t help that there have been recent drunk driving incidents and deaths.

Don’t believe the hype. I can try to find the link, but there have been less than 50 deaths in pismo since 1992. Compared to other state parks they pale in comparison, especially considering that it is an SVRA and not just a nature park. They directly compare Oceano to Yosemite , and there have been less deaths in the dunes in the last 27 years than Yosemite has had since 2016.
