I have a 2010 tundra 5.7 with 270k miles. Just bought it a month ago. Runs perfect. Yesterday I drained tranny fluid and 6 quarts came out! I was surprised because I heard only 4 should drain. I figured I would add what I drained but I made a mess. Lots of fluid overflowed. So I am assuming last owner went to lube shop and they overfilled it. Any thoughts?

Checking the fluid is pretty easy just take a paper clip and put it in pin 4 and 13. Start the truck shift from p to s6 than back to p and than shift from d to n quickly no longer than 1 second each shift. You should see the drive light come on for 2 seconds and than put it park and wait till the d light stays on for right temp. If its blinking its to hot and if its not on its to cold. The right temp is 115 to 133. Toyota optimal temperature is at 115 to check fuild.

remember to not strip out the drain plug. Its very easy to do only 14lb with a torque wrench.

Another great transmission thread. These should have a sticky somewhere for future reference.

Thanks guys for your quick response! Ok I did that but my truck is missing the straw that should be in that upper drain plug. When I got to the proper temperature I removed that hex plug and most all fluid came out. Called dealer and they said there is no replacement straw part for that and to have service check it for me. I'm worried they will screw it up and drain it all out after I add the gallon if I bring it to them.

Nice video and he did say something about Tundra in the last minute that was helpful. Tundra does not have the red straw or any straw really! The overflow portion is built into the pan? Seems to me without the straw that most fluid will empty out since this port is only couple inches higher from the bottom drain plug..

Once you do the temperature engagement on the truck. Do it cold and than when the D light comes on thats at 115 degrees and thats the recommended temp and than pull out the overflow plug it should be only a trickle not a drip...

I added close to 6 qts when I did my fluid change.

Seems like the most straigh-forward approach to a 'full flush' of trans fluid on 5.7. Gonna use the torque pan temp to dial in the measurement temp yet I'm gonna really rely on carefully measuring what comes out each time and replace just the same yet expect about 4 qts a shot, correct?

    I've read the measurement temp s/b 115 F, correct?

    Thanks and luck all. : ^ )))

Trailer brake. Limousine tint in rear windows. Ultra Gauge "Blue". Toyota bed mat and bug deflector.
No "Straws" on Tundra. Get fluid to 115F, and do not go over 130F while checking, or you will have to let the truck cool off and start over. While running (in Park) at the proper temperature range (115F-130F), there should only be a small trickle coming out of the "Check" plug. I use my Ultraguage "Blue" to read my transmission temperature instead of having to do the shift from hell routine. YMMV
