Now if Toyota would make the PRO version similar to the Power Wagon I'd be all over it. Only thing that keeps me from the PW is that its a RAM.

@Tundra805 Welcome back. Glad you figured that out. That's a story that all auto manufacturers need to hear. Trying not to worry to much about a rodent eating my wire harness but, I think about it way to much. Fricking annoying. Now, what about them rats? Are they gone for good? Did you need to set any traps?

 

Thank you, we did traditional traps, removed all hiding spots, added lighting to the areas where cars park, bait stations (I hate poison but I was desperate), put Bounce fabric softeners under the hood, everything we could think of. Rats have been gone for over two years now and I haven't had an episode since. Grateful to God.

Yeah, they just weren't looking for "bugs" in a middle aged white man from California. They just wanted to prescribe drugs to cover the symptoms. Had I not found this awesome naturopath doctor I could have gone a long time with no answers. Luckily the first clue was when I went to spray my windshield nothing came out, we all know when we run out of windshield washer fluid. Then I found the chewed up washer fluid lines, then I found the poop on the engine, then the poop in the cabin filter, then the Toyota dealer opened up the dash ... full of poop. CDC has a report that humans can contract parasitic infections by breathing dry rat droppings. Yummy.

 

Hanta Virus... really bad chit.

 

I’d probably have a few stray cats hanging around just to be sure.

And then hope the cats don’t crawl up into the engine bay.

It’s a shame to hear the Ram is junk. It sure looks nice. I love my Tundra and I’m not in the market but I still don’t like to hear of other trucks being junk. A new model with new tech is always risking it esp if it’s a dodge.

What a wild story. Glad your ok and were able to take care of the rat infestation. People die from these dang rodents. remember the black plague. That was rats.

I almost purchased a new RAM instead of the Tundra. I really like their new body style and the performance hood they have as an option is awesome. The thing just looks bad axx. The day I was going to go to the Dodge dealer I googled complaints on 2019 dodge ram. There were a number of recalls and over 130 complaints. Some pretty serious. I then did the same search on the Tundra. There was a a recall or two and 4 complaints and one was a duplicate. I bought the Tundra a few days later. I've been more than happy with my decision.

 

-37.5% from sticker in 9 months was the depreciation as a trade in, maybe could have got a few grand more if I waited and sold private, but I was getting zero bites, zero interest - whereas when I sold my Tundra private I had multiple buyers with a few days. 2013 Tundra depreciation was -11% over 3+ years and 35k miles.

I learned this with my hard earned money rather than using a stupid search engine lol

Sorry to hear about the rat issue. Glad your feeling better. I live on a farm and have my own issues with mice/ rats. Even with 6 barn cats they are pesky problem.

I agree about the ram and shoddy performance. In fact when considering all the major brands, I try to anticipate long term reliability. My dad has been a Toyota man ever since the 80s. He had a Toyota pickup with well over 300k miles on power train. Also has ‘95 T100 that the only major maintenance item is 2 clutch replacements in 260k miles. He also has an ‘05 tundra as well as a myriad of other Toyota vehicles over the years. That being said you have piece of mind when buying the brand. Everything improvement is done for the product and making the brand better not bottom line sales numbers. As good as the ram line looks i have my second thoughts about their reliability. Remember “fix it again tony” and Chrysler when buying their products.

 

Rats are walking disease. Keeping them at bay in some areas is next to impossible. I live on the edge of The Santa Monica Conservancy, and Dirt Mullholland. We get coyotes coming down the hill all the time in packs, they eat all the cats, and we get all the rats. It cost me almost 7g last year to evict them from under my house (built into hillside, on posts) and close up all the entry points. They used the pipes under the house like a highway, gnawed through the drywall and got in behind the master bathroom vanity; open the door to get some perfume, and a rat ran out! Still see their poop around the walkways on my property. No cats to take care of them. For the cars, I put peppermint oil on a cotton ball and put that under a seat and in the engine compartment; I hear they don't like that stuff. Been putting drops around on the walkways regularly and am growing mint in pots around the rain gutters, that they use like a highway to get to the roof. It's a battle. But no issues with car wiring, with the oldest being a '98 Chrysler Town & Country minivan. So maybe it's working (or maybe they have better taste LOL). L.A. is in for some rough time this summer with them, big issue due to homeless camping and all that trash. I pray we don't have a major breakout of something nasty.
Glad you are doing better. Maybe give the peppermint oil a shot if you haven't done so already.

 

holy crap! That is a battle you have going on. After the Thomas fire it was like a plague here, everything ran down from the hills. I will definitely try the peppermint, and thank you for the tip!
If the coyotes are getting the cats maybe a rat terrier dog or two would help on your property. I have seen them hunt, they go psycho after rats. Check out some vids on the YouTubes, crazy.

 

What happened to the tundra with all the chewed wiring?

 

Toyota dealer replaced the entire engine harness, insurance claim.
