Man I actually liked the steering controls on ‘15 F150 , much more than ‘18 tundra. Especially the cruise control. Much easier to access and adjust without having to reach behind the wheel. But i think the reason I liked it the most is because it was on the left side, just like you said..

I think Toyota changes it every year on purpose because every year there are more and more complaints about how it should be... So they change it over and over again and again, but never please anyone. What's funny is all other controls of every Toyota are in the same location... this is their chance to break free from yota-monotony and play with people's heads. I have a 17 with an idatalink maestro so I was able to put the controls where I wanted, but I get in my wife's Highlander and experience the 1st world pain of be aggravated by technology. And she's like " what the f@ck are you doing to my truck" when I'm trying to turn the volume up...lol. I go for the knob and call it a draw.

Work cars (explorers 2014-current) are on the left and it's brutal. I'm sure it'd be fine if it were on the correct side like it sounds like your f-150's is

Maybe it's my extensive driving in Toyota's, but I can use the cruise control without thinking. It's right there where I hold the wheel when cruising. Ford's I had to not only use my left hand which does pretty much nothing while cruising but there are also so many buttons that feel the exact same that I had to look down every time.

So we are now complains about how convenient our connivence buttons are?? Left, right, up, down... who cares. Literally. Who is caring about this? It’ll run to 400k miles with literally only regular maintenance. If you want all the bells and whistles, pay more for a loaded Chevy that lasts 100k if you're lucky and leaves you wishing you just had a engine that ran instead of the freaking volume button in a different spot.

I don’t understand posts here sometimes. This is ridiculous.

I know this is not major thing to complain about, but it is one that is consistently annoying.

To start with, yes, volume should be up and down and the arrows should be left and right. Volume is an absolute thing that is understood as an increase or a decrease, while the channel/track change arrows are an arbitrary construct based on different UI situations, so right off volume should be up and down.

Secondly, up and down don't apply to must of the music interfaces that these buttons apply to. Want to skip to the next track? Is that up to increase the track number or is it down to move down an imaginary listing of tracks. How about radio presets, is it up to move from preset 1 to preset 2? Nope it's down, to move down a list in the UI that you can't even see from the home screen.

My 2010 Prius has the arrows up and down pointing but they are side by side, and for the most part it makes more sense that this one. I have seriously considered opening the wheel and re-wiring the buttons, but I figure THAT'D be crazy.

I can’t believe some people are actually getting offended that I posted this. Holy fuck, you think I’m actually greatly put off by this? Never thought my minor annoyance with the fact I press a wrong button from time to time would be so divisive. If people didn’t post their random thoughts and options there would be no posts here. Maybe you should go read a Haynes manual for entertainment rather than this forum.

Where are you from. I ask because on my 2014 1974, that set of buttons control my phone and is on the right of the steering wheel. The button below on your steering that seems to be for phone is volume control on mine.
The set of 4way button on the right of your steering is on my left and controls the playlist... track next etc.
Are you in a country where steering is on the right of the car.

@The Jamerican -my '18 buttons are like posted above, but my '14 Tundra had buttons as you described. I miss that on my '14. To tell you how used to it I was, when I was driving the new truck back home from Chicago I made no less than 6 phone calls on accident when I was just trying to change the volume on my radio (no lie)

That's kinda the point of the Tundra, and why so many of us love them. We complain about the super tiny details - You're complaining we're complaining, he's complaining about the button layout, I'm complaining I don't have enough money to do what I want to my truck - it's all little things. Go to a Ford, Ram, or GM forum and people complain they got stranded by their truck. In the end we all complain, but those of us with Tundra's at least get to drive our trucks while complaining (other than the few unlucky that had to get a new gasket that was covered by warranty).

I'm just happy that my '07 has none of these buttons on the steering wheel... less is more.

This really screws me up when driving my wife’s Sequoia. Hers are like OP’s, and mine have the volume up and down on the bottom left of the steering wheel. Every time I try to turn the volume up in her truck I initiate a phone call from her phone to the last person she called.

I agree. I went from MY14 to MY19. I was trying to turn the volume down on a call and ended up hanging up on them. And while them may be a setting, I wish you change stations other than what your presets are.

Did you mod your steering wheel? Wrap the wheel/dip the silver?

It's a vinyl wrap on the silver parts, I was unsure if I wanted black or orange so I did the vinyl wrap to try it. Now that I know I'd prefer black I'll paint it at some point, there's a couple very small details that bug me that painting would get rid of. The steering wheel is a leather wrap that was stitched on, and feels a 1000x better. Doing both together took about 3 hours to do.

AGREED!! My wife's Avalon has the intuitive layout of this switch as it should be and I drive hers and mine a lot and drives me CRAZY that they are reversed from each other. Drives me even MORE CRAZY knowing hers is right and mine is jacked!!

    Lol.
:rofl:stupid of Toyota to change like that. Do nuh t they realize many customers are repeat and once we step used to certain things being in one place it's hard to change muscle memory.
Especially us men. We put things in one place and that's is where it should remain. Hell if we can look for or find it if its moved..:rofl::rofl:;);):rofl:;);)
