What exhaust replacement?

Hello all.

One of the things my new ‘03 needs is a muffler, which I knew before purchase.
I’ve searched around, but found little information as to what a good replacement would be. I don’t need anything performance oriented really (although if the price is right...), mostly I’m looking for something OE style.
My whole system is very rusty, so I’m thinking cat back, but don’t want to lose the center resonator, most aftermarket systems seem to eliminate them.
I’m looking for the right balance of price and quality, without getting something loud.
Can anybody point me in the right direction on this?

Do some research on Toyota parts deal dot com for OEM bolt on quiet $tuff delivered to your door. With aftermarket mufflers it seems there is no balance in price and quality. Its either cheap and fails early, or you pay $ and it lasts.

 

Good to know; any recommendations for the lower end of the quality aftermarket?

I've got a Walker direct fit muffler with no resonator, it's quiet at idle and not loud at cruising speed either.

Cost me all of $215 for a shop to install it and weld a pipe in place of the resonator.

 

The gen 1 toyota uses a very unique 2 3/8’s inch exhaust size. Changing it to a 2.5 will cause torque loss. Try and keep it oe pipes with any muffler you want

 

OEM Toyota, new or used.
Buy the entire cat-back, muffler & tail-pipe.

 

Yeah, I was looking at Walker, have you had it long? Wondering about longevity.
Walker also makes an affordable center section with resonator too.

I can check with the dealer, but prices in Canada get ridiculous (not just car parts), some things it’s still cheaper to buy from the US, even with the exchange rate, shipping and import tacked on.

It's been on 2 years now, the shop that installed it gave it a lifetime warranty. Still looks good. They said they would do the resonator but it would have been another $150 and I didn't care that much about it.

 

I replaced my resonator and muffler this spring.
