We bounce around on brands of dry food, usually every 3rd bag or so. I don’t feel that any food is nutritionally complete and feeding them the same thing forever has to be extraordinarily boring for them.

Mine is 110 pounds, so as others have said, wet and raw would be difficult to afford. He also has some distress with high % chicken so I try to avoid that as a main ingredient.

We do Blue (Lamb), Taste of the Wild (bison or pork), Crave (lamb), Nutro (lamb), and are currently on Canidae.

I supplement the dry food daily with a 1/2 can of tuna or salmon (oils are good in dry climates), some of whatever meat I’m eating, or (rarely) a scoop of canned food (blue or TOTW, typically).

    Congrats on your new pup!

None! I tow a boat weekly
Diamond Lamb and rice is fantastic. It’s also the maker of the Kirkland brand.
Natures Domain from Costco is also very good. I feed my Pyrenees the Natures Domain Salmon as it has the Omega vitamins.,

It’s good to hear a Costco brand is quality! That would make my life easy. Haha

I have a Cane Corso “Italian Mastiff.” She is 162lbs and eats everything that we eat. :rofl:She refuses to eat dog food and will not eat for up to 5 days. My wife and I will get overly concerned about her health after 2-3 days and give in to her demands!! :spending:

I tried one of the salmon brands quite a few years back due to a dog with food allergies, but the ensuing gas bombs made me quit using it. I have had 4 different dogs on the Diamond lamb & rice and have had zero problems since then. The only thing I don't like about it is that the "output" is more than I would like... but it is like clockwork. One hour after eating, I put them out and they make cigars. LOL

Put them on a balanced raw meat diet and their poop will be tiny and disintegrate within a couple of days.

And with that said I feed an all raw meat diet following the 80/10/5/5 which is 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 5% liver and 5% other organs.

They get a lot of venison in hunting season along with duck, rabbit, beef, turkey, pork, chicken and any other meat out there.

Woah sorry for the late response. Never got an email about your message. Anyways, as far as I know all the grain frees at Costco are made by diamond. I believe the bag also says made by diamond. I don’t have a bag now to look. I empty them into a canister the moment I get home.

Fromms. Only dog food on the market without a recall enacted by an outside agency. The only recall was by themselves for TOO much protein in it.

Dogs coats are much better just on it than blue Buffalo.

I tried to feed my dog BARF once. She shat so terrible for the whole 6 weeks she was on it and for like a week afterwards. My dog does not do well on all meat diets. Now she's on Pro Plan sensitive stomach salmon blend. New dog will be transitioning to Pro Plan Sport high protein due to his energy and playfulness.

High protein is good for highly active dogs ( like drug dogs who train almost daily) if your dog doesn't work like that then it wouldn't be a good idea for high protein. They can get infections in their urine and other bad things. Fyi

Came across this article and it's got me thinking, especially that I feed my dog Zignature. It was #2 on the list. I have been seeing this condition related to grain free, but figured with the limited ingredients Zignature has, didn't worry to much. Anyway not trying to freak anyone out. Here's the article. I'll be talking to my vet to see if I really need her on a grain free diet.

Did you get your pup figured out? Just saw this and read most of the comments:annoyed: I've had a lot of working dogs and family dogs over the years and my wife is a Vet if you have any questions. I know everyone means well but...... Holler if you need anything. I would advise against soft food however.

Take a look at Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice. It's not real expensive and I have been feeding it to 3 generations of bird dogs and retrievers. No allergies, need for supplement's or any adverse problems. My vet says he can't believe how fit my oldest labrador is. He is almost 9 and can outrun my 3.5 yr old Brittany any day of the week.

Our breeder says she has been feeding her dogs Purina Pro plan for years and they do really well on it.

Official ratings in Dog food advisor website aren’t good but it has really good customer reviews. So that’s confusing.

Do you have a recommendation for food? I’d love to hear what you and your wife like about your food choice as well, so maybe I can learn what to look for!
