So I started my car stereo install and will update this as I go along. I am rewiring all speakers, doing some sound deadening, building a box for a 10" sub, new 5 channel amp, head unit with Maestro factory integration, all new component speakers etc ..

    List of Products
    -JBL Club 6500C (Front Speakers)
    -JBL Club 5000C (Rear Speakers)
    -JBL WS1000 (10" Subwoofer)
    -JBL Stadium 5 (5-CH Amp)
    -NVX Wiring kit
-Monoprice Oxygen free 14g Speaker Wire
    -Custom Box (3/4" & 1/2" Maple Plywood)
    -Kenwood DDX9705S
-Noico Butyl Mat & Close cell foam sheets (Doors and rear of cab)

One thing that may be useful to others is how I ran the speaker wire for the rear doors since you have to go through an existing plug. I drilled through the top where there are no wires and it was actually really easy and works very well.

I will be finishing this up in the next few weeks.

Where are you planning to place your sub?
    Why not 2 subs?

I don't think I will need two subs as far as bass. I am putting the box behind the rear seat. I'm not looking for insane amounts of bass really just a crisp full spectrum of well tuned sound. If I want more bass Ill swap this JBL sub out for the JL 10Tw3 or build a duplicate of the box I have and add another on and a mono amp.

Looking good man. I used Noico in my truck and really like it. Made a huge difference. Props for running new speaker wire. The stock wire is not ideal for an amplified system.

With the available space one sub will most likely perform just as good, possibly better, than two sub's.

You picked some nice gear, I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. The club amps are nice and do the power they claim.

The noice(?) Deadener is good stuff too.
Looks like s really nice build.

Edit: did you already buy your head unit? If not and you want to checkout, or compare, to a newly released unit, there's an interesting one from I think stinger. The Elev8.

You picked out a really good deck regardless, though. Probably better than the stinger, but just wanted to throw that out there.

Thanks, it can only help. The running of the speaker wire has by far been the easiest part of this yet. Much easier then trying to bypass the factory amp for sure.

Thank man. Yea I already have the kenwood. Got it on sale for $440 so it was a good deal since the new one just came out. Should work out nicely with apple play etc and the maestro factory integration.

I don't know if you will run into this, but I just added a 10" sub/enclosure behind the seat of my 18 Ltd CM. If your box is basically filling the space behind the seat, mine had a pocket on the back that the mount location for the factory box had to fit into and the front was slotted for the seat hinge bracket that holds the bottom and top of the seat together for folding up. It also had to fit into that slot, along with the 10" sub being offset for clearance. The enclosure had to be lifted slightly by another person while the seat was put back into place. Just some info on the problems I ran into. Good Luck.

Do you have any pictures? As I have it built the sub should be right behind the drivers side passenger seat which looks pretty open. I have seen the notch out you are referring to, and I will just have to see if I have an issue when the seat is down. My box is only about 5" deep at the bottom and 3" at the top. We shall see very soon. And thank you for the info.

Bought it on eBay. This the tag on the inside of the box. I tried to lookup the dims for you, but didn't see them. The seller was AVLeaderz if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.

I had to rip the front off to move the sub opening over. So re did the front and then completed the box. Should work out nicely once I have the time to do the final install.

Anyone have tips on a good grounding location? I’m thinking of using the factory spot behind the seatbelts in the rear.

Can you help me with the Noico matting? I am completely confused about all of the different types of matting. I see you have a shiny silver stuff that looks like the noico 80 mil sheets that I planned on buying. Their Amazon link says to buy closed cell foam, that to me looks to do the same thing and absorbs sound.. but on your inner door it's shiny, outer door it's a black color, and then looks like you covered that black stuff with another darker flatter black thing.

I'm sure this is such a newbie question but I couldn't find one post or a sticky about what we need. Each website I go to that tries to explain it, all sounds the same to me. Sticky foam that absorbs sounds and heat.

I can use the picture as a guide, but if anyone has anything helpful like: "Put matting in inner door and outer door, and cover all of that matting in and out with the closed cell foam." That would be helpful. but everyones post seems inconsistent and looks way different.

    Thanks!

There are many different ways people do it. I used noico sound deadening matting in black and silver just because I ordered the black and needed a little more and the silver is the only one that came in the amount i needed. I also used noico closed cell foam sheets on top and some in the door panels because I had so much. It’s probably not the best job but it made a huge difference in the sound of the factory speakers by sealing off the door panel openings. The rubber matting mainly stops the panels from rattling and stiffens them. The foam is supposed to be sound proofing and heat shield. Some people put the matting everywhere possible but I’ve read many times you don’t need to cover everything 100%. At least 25% coverage should make a difference. I just used as much matting as I had. Would love to do the entire truck but I don’t have that many hours to put into it. It takes a long time to do just the doors. And again to me the main benefit is the sound quality.

Here is how I deconstructed the old tweeters and used the ring from the old ones and glues it to the new ones so they would snap in the door panels like the old ones did. I "tacked" them in place with super glue and then used JB weld Plastic putty. Some other epoxy would have been a little easier to work with but more messy like 3M 4240 etc. But I test fit them and the work as expected so its a pretty easy mod that should work for most tweeters.

What were all the dimensions for your box? I've been looking for boxes but am way more interested in building my own without breaking the bank. Would love to do the exact same thing as you did.

Im gonna give you my most honest and sincere opinion. Don't build your own box .. lol. Dont get me wrong here, Mine is great and works awesome (no better than one you can buy). But it was a serious pain in the ass to build and in my opinion not worth the time when you can find them used on here all the time or spend a few hundred and get one already made, or a little more to get one built with a sub already in it. Also when you buy one its already tuned etc and you have nothing to worry about. Because its not just a simple square box. Save yourself the headache.
