I don’t have this issue on my 15. What year are all your older trucks?

Hey Mark, sell the Tundra and buy the Ram. Done deal. Then move over to the Ram forum and complain about that truck over there.
I have a class A CDL license and I prefer to not use cruise while towing for many reasons. But, I have used it with my Tundra while on open highway and flat ground and had zero issues.

I’m not normally like this, but A LOT has changed thru the years. Can you use cruise while towing? Sure. Is it a good idea to leave a part of you control, I.e. you controlling the throttle, to a computer while you are towing thousands of extra pounds? Probably not. Look, I do think you can tow and use cruise, and I’m sure everyone does it, but it’s not a fatal blow to the tundra as you have made it seem. Congratulations on the new truck. I hope you hold on to it as they are really great trucks, aside for some text in a book and legal coverage of ass by the manufacturer.

Perhaps, but I like to remain hands on and in control.
Now if the AC didn't work while towing - I would bitch about it.

Welp just got back from taking my boat to storage. Pulling it with my 2018 Platinum WITH TSS and Dynamic Cruise Control I had zero issues turning on the cruise control. Zero. None. Worked just fine.

Well I stand corrected, they didn’t implement this as a safety feature. Sounds like something is wrong with his truck. That won’t happen with the Dodge though!

Interesting thread to say the least.

I was never able to use CC with my Tundra while towing (unless if was flat or downhill), and I have been with a few friends with different makes of 1/2 ton trucks that can’t use CC while towing either. Just because it doesn’t say it in the manual, doesn’t mean it will actually work. At least Toyota gives you the heads up. The only modern 1/2 ton I have been in that can use CC with pretty heavy weight is the Ford EB. The torque hits down low like a diesel and holds gears.

This is all on geographic location as well. Towing the same TT in Nebraska vs Colorado will vary greatly in towing performance and the ability to use CC.

I use CC all the time. I also used CC towing up to 105k lbs in a commercial setting. Nothing wrong with using CC while towing when appropriate.

I think the main thing there is “when appropriate”. That’s using experience and good judgment.

I was able to use it on my truck but I was only hooked up to a four pin towing an old ski boat. I only tried it out on the flats just because it was steady. I wonder if plugging into the seven pin overrides the CC?

No, it doesn’t disable it, not to my knowledge.

BS! If you're so physically taxed by driving without the cruise, you should pull over for the day.

I had never used the cruise control while towing until the other day in my 2nd gen. I hated it! Damn truck acted like money grew on trees. I swear it though it was a drag race every time there was the slightest incline... Lol not sure why anyone would want to use cruise when you tow

I rarely use CC, almost never in the '02 and the cruise in my '07 remains non-functional. I turn the OD off in my '02 when towing, then on and off as needed. I imagine towing in the '07 would entail putting in 4th gear and shifting in and out of the two available over drives as needed.

I rarely ever use CC towing, I rather gauge distance and anticipate with gas pedal control.

    I drove this...

    20190413_105639.jpg

from Pissburgh to Bristol, Virginia twice with the adaptive cruise control armed and the Xmission in Hoe/Tall mode.

It fought long hills and stayed in lower gears maintaining 70mph and backed off the throttle itself when I started creeping up on the vehicle in front of me.

Fun fact: OEM brake controller gain was set at 7.5.

Pretty sure you can tow just fine with CC. My 17 will let me do it but, can you stop in time if you really had to. That is the real concern for Toyota. Reaction time is probably lacking for most people when driving in CC.

I never tow in auto shift or cruise control haha. I’m always in S mode keeping smooth rpm in a torque heavy zone.
