So It seems that the aftermarket world isn't too involved with our first gems. I have factory step rails, but I dislike how low they hang. Is there anybody out there who makes rock sliders or a similar step that is tucked up pretty tight to the truck that is not $600? Pic of factory steps

Maybe. You would have to contact them. It should be the same thing just longer and with a few more mounts. I see you are in nor cal. Hot metal fab is in loomis. I don't know how far that is for you. There phone number is (916) 960-3095.

I have those and have 2 observations.

1 the steps can get really slippery when they're wet
2 the finish won't hold up, I replaced one set under warranty and when the finish flaked off of the 2nd set I got a refund.

    Some junk
I had those and I hated them. The ends aren't capped so water mud and snow can get in. On top of that there is a lot of places for water and such to stick and start rusting. Mine were kind of old but my truck looks 10x better with them removed. It also seemed like the front step was in a weird place. I'm trying to remember, but I think it was too far forward to be in a natural position if your door isn't completely open.

Making sliders is on my list.

Thanks I was considering those as well but I want the entire slider to be covered with a plate. (So I won't have to worry about little kids getting their foot or leg stuck in between)
Also white knuckle rock sliders is a 30 min drive from home so I'd be saving a couple of dollars there .
