Its not a big deal either way as I have been running the SC and BD for over two years. The shifting only sucks on mine when it is cold(below operating temp) or when I get on it hard. The BD does make good power, but I don't trust it above 4K rpm after seeing some fellow owners dyno/air fuel ratio results.

I'm just amazed at what ov is able to do with the little 3.5l Tacoma. Not just adding a little power and calling it a day, but completely reworking how that truck does it's business. I absolutely can't wait to see what is possible with the tundra.

I want to pull the trigger on a Magnuson Supercharger soooo bad, but hear stories about them running poorly due to the tuning on FFV trucks. If there is a solution I definitely want to jump on it.

It seems that @OVTune Is going to be the solution... Hopefully. I just sent him my ecu info and now waiting for my basic tune.

The bullydog isn't bad. As @MrMax has stated, it has lil issues but the trade off of power and drivability is worth it. I think the more stock your truck is when you install the SC.. the better it's tuned to your truck. I have to many power train mods to have a blanket tune for and expect everything to run perfect.
Would I do it all over again?? In a heartbeat. It's worth it.

Glad to hear that. As for performance mods, I've only got the TRD CAI (which would get replaced by the Magnuson CAI) and the TRD Exhaust. I see you're in AZ also...I was curious if the 91 Octane we get our here would be sufficient also, since we don't have the 93 available. Who installed your kit? I was talking with Right Toyota over in Scottsdale who appears to be the dealership that handles the majority of them up here. Any thoughts on the new Harrop unit?

I haven't had any issues with the 91 here, so no worries with that. My local dealer, Alexander Toyota, did the install. Over the years, they have installed over 20 of the TRD/Magnuson superchargers, so I was very comfortable using them. They completed it in 2 days for 1000 bucks. I personally went with the Magnuson kit because they made the TRD kit and so I felt like they would have a little extra insight on it. I haven't looked much at the others so I can't give much thought about the new harrop

Let me know how the new tune works out once you get everything up and running. I'm hoping for good news, so I can feel more comfortable and join the SC club.

I have an '07 Tundra with 260,000 miles. I added a supercharger 32,000 miles ago.
A couple months ago I started getting pinging on hard accelerations.
I've cleaned the K&N air filter, MAF sensor and recently changed the plugs.
After changing the plugs, it was only a few days later and I got pinging on hard accelerations again. (It was several hard accelerations in a row, which might make the plugs hot, and pre-detonate).
Just before the plug change, a Toyota mechanic rode with me with his lap top plugged in. A richer fuel mixture eliminated the pinging, but he couldn't make it stay richer.

Am I hearing there is a new flash program for SC pinging problems like I'm having?

Good for you not being afraid of the miles and going forced induction! From what I understand the tune from @OVTune can help. He offeres the ability to datalog and tweak the tune to you.
Sounds like you might have something else going on though. I'd assume you are using 93 octane gas?

I cannot wait to get my tune finally. It has been a long time waiting since I bought the truck and finally going to get this moving forward

At 260,000 miles if you haven't regularly (every 60k-90k miles) serviced your fuel injection system you probably have a ton of carbon deposit build-up on your intake valves, combustion chambers and pistons.

Under the conditions you describe I would suspect this to play a bigger role than hot sparkplugs in your pigging issue. The sparkplugs get plenty of cooling from their metal-on-metal connection with the cylinder head which has engine coolant keeping it's temperature under control.

The carbon deposits can hold combustion heat much better than the sparkplugs so they are typically responsible for pre-detonation in high mileage engines if nothing else has changed.

This is why stock performance vehicles with turbo/super chargers or high compression engines call for premium (higher octane) fuel even though they run fine on regular when they're new. Once they get older the carbon buildup causes pre-detonation with lower octane, regular grade fuel, but not with higher octane, premium fuel. It's easier for manufacturer's to just document that you have to use premium for the entire life of the vehicle than to explain how to know when premium is required.

I would try a really good 3-part fuel injection service. A 3 part service uses 1 chemical in the gas tank and then 2 separate chemicals sprayed through the intake 1after the other. It's the most cost effective way to get rid of the carbon buildup.

We used the kit from Wynn's at my dad's shop. The difference it makes on high mileage vehicles is incredible.
    https://www.wynnsusa.com/product/3-step-fuel-system-service-kit-10104/

It even restores some of your original fuel economy that reduces over time ( mostly because of the carbon buildup on the intake valves).

Ping me if you want instructions on doing it at home. Dad sold his shop and retired so letting go some of his trade secrets won't cause any problems.;)

Nice! Other than the pinging, have you experienced any other problems since installing the SC?

The reason I ask: my '07 has 285K, and I have not yet ruled out adding the SC.

Alrighty guys, after some delays we will be sending out all pending files this week!

Truck is finally going to be going on the dyno and get all setup tomorrow.

Results on the way, and we will be posting our harrop stuff likely in July.

Thank you for being patient everyone

I too can't wait. Have long tubes and exhaust to put on. Tune would top it off. SC would just be the best thing ever.

Got my initial tune today, and here are some first impressions:

The shifting is SO MUCH better. Smooth and buttery. I have some truck-specific shifting issues because of my build, but overall.. so much better

It also has a very noticeable loss of power throughout the powerband from the bullydog tune to this tune. Although Matt has said the first tune is very mellow until they can get some real life numbers and then safely increase them throughout.

I cant wait for my next updated tune to see the progression. Thanks @OVTune

The current tune I have received is much better then I had from Bullydog.. (for a supercharger) even with the loss of power. I no longer have the jumpy or lost shift points, nor abrupt clunky shifting. The power is smooth, just less. I also am not having to clear a "too rich" DTC every other day. I am sure Matt will give me back my power, in a more reliable and safer form. That is the best part of his kit.. his tune will be CUSTOM to your truck's needs. Not a generic, "this works for most" tune. The initial tune is a broad works for most tune, but as you send him your logs of how your truck operates, he will then customize it to where your truck needs it.

Edit:: He will also be able to fine tune my shift points even better... that is a god send

Yes the first version of the tune (the base tune) is conservative. We load you with the base tune, then dial it up from some data-logs.
(this is on FFV specific trucks that require the additional attention before dialing in the ignition for more power).

Is this only the process for a supercharged ffv or all ffv trucks?

    Maybe a dumb question

    SC only.
however we will still dial in non SC trucks. They just don't start from as conservative of a base file.

Note, we do this for a specific reason. These trucks have been out running for a while now with who knows what going on under the hood. Lean, detonation, limp mode, etc. We don't want them on the edge until we see data

There’s quite a few 19s here. Mat has done a lot in the nearly 2 years I’ve had my Tacoma tuned, I’m excited to see what he is able to do for the tundra. A couple more MPG would be awesome.
