gen1s are a great platform..look at those 2 LTs we got on the forum.

 

4x4 V8 powered 4runner is starting to see an increase in value and the 4x4 4.7 tundra will catch on soon.

 

Even though i moved up to a 2019 CM, I miss my 2001 for a few reasons. It was the perfect size truck.

I sold it a few months ago for just under $8,000.

 

I actually met the owner of that tundra about a year and a half ago. I had a Titan at the time, but had always liked the first gen tundras. He didn't make me want a first gen any less that's for sure. His company sells some pretty cool stuff too. We were talking with him about getting a demo rooftop tent for one of our teardrop trailers for a show or something. He seemed like a pretty cool guy that genuinely liked Toyotas. If I recall he had a pretty cool land cruiser too.

This was also the same day I rode in the back seat of my boss's Tacoma crew cab and decided I needed more room. The cab looks similar in size to a first gen tundra but it's smaller in pretty much every way if I recall.

 

Having owned both, I can confirm, significantly smaller in all areas...

 

The lack of space in the backseat is the only reason i had to sell my 2001. One word: kids. Love 'em but they come with a LOT of gear..

 

The last double cab Tacoma I rode in was a 2017 or maybe 18 and it's a nice truck, beautiful even. They have good power and all the fun stuff, but somehow a first gen tundra still has more space inside. From the outside they look like about the same size cab to me. Somewhere those inches are getting lost haha

 

I concur. It's the same with 4runners too, they look big outside but inside isn't as spacious as youd expect. I've been perplexed by that in both Tacomas and 4runners. Both excellent platforms, I wouldn't knock them, but it's as if they have doors a foot thick and lots of center console. The dark interior colors didn't help either.

I used to drive an double cab Taco almost daily, when I got my access cab Tundra it felt way bigger inside. Bed seemed bigger inside and cab seemed taller too, more headroom.

 

I like that they didn't go all out with the lift and tires, and this gives me some ideas for if/when I retire my 2002 from work truck duties.
