Rear Reinforcement Bumper Failure

Hi Everybody,
I purchased a 2003 Tundra in April of 2017. The dealer informed me that the frame had been replaced in Jan of 2017. Last week I was towing a 12' landscape trailer and the factory installed hitch failed and the trailer dropped down considerably. After investigating I realized when they replaced the frame and all the crossbar supports, but they failed to replace the reinforcement bumper which in my eyes is also a crossbar support. I went to my local Toyota Dealer and he advised me there isn't anything he could do for me, that the recall did not include this part. He provided the phone number to the Toyota recall department. Called them and they advised me there is nothing Toyota can do, that there is not a current recall on this. Has anyone else have this issue. I can't believe that they would replace the frame but leave this item out. The rear bumper is attached to this and if the truck is rear ended there is no support from the bumper. Doesn't bumpers in a accident provide some security? Totally screwed because parts will cost me ove a grand and I just don't have the money. Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the feed back. I did find the reinforcement for two hundred, then you have to buy the bumper brackets and it stills says with out a receiver. If I looked everything up right, it was just under five hundred dollars. This part looks like it was the same steel that they recalled for corrosion. I feel they should of replaced it. Other than that issue, absolutely love my Tundra.

 

Okay, what you "feel" and/or "believe" (about any recall) is pretty much irrelevant. Your truck is now roughly 16-years old. Surely you didn't expect it to last forever without at least some expense on you part. A child born that year is now almost old enough to join the military. Heck, most vehicles that old are now long ago in junkyards. A few hundred dollars and a little work is not really that much to keep it going, especially for something your love. Go try to find the parts at a junkyard (a wrecked Tundra or whatever) and have a friend or two help with the work.

 

Depending on manufacturing date and in-service date, we’re talking a 16 to 17 year old truck at this point.

While there were some very premature frame corrosion issues, I personally find it amazing that they replaced a frame on what was a 14 to 15 year old truck (I know, class-action settlements, Dana’s fault... blah blah blah).

A five hunny dollhair repair cost for OEM parts after 16+ years seems pretty reasonable to me. But I’m sure there are aftermarket and even used options from unsalted parts of the country.

 

Are you the determinant for relavence? He was expressing an opinion, whether you agree or not is your opinion and only that.... You don't have to be a dick when you're expressing yours., it costs nothing to be civil

 

It's not a matter of whether I agree or not, or you agree or not. As he discovered from his call to Toyota, it's irrelevant. And I'm not trying to be "a dick." That's simply your interpretation. Nothing I said was in any way intended that way. What I said is hard reality, with a suggestion for a reasonable solution (the junkyard) added.
