I recently purchased a 2018 trd sport 4x4 crewmax. I just noticed the other day, when I turn the vehicle on and put it in drive and accelerate it makes a noticeable click noise. This only happens when the vehicle has been turned off and then put in drive. It almost sounds like it’s coming from the drive shaft but am not sure. Has anyone experienced this with their Tundra?

Does this only happen the first time you do it or every time you stop and go?

Do you use four wheel drive or is it typically in 2WD?

Is it a "click" that happens repeatedly after startup, or is it a "clunk" which happens once about 10-15 seconds after startup? If it's the latter, it's normal. According to the forum, it's the ABS self check. My Tundra does it as well. If it's the former, I have no idea how to help.

I greatly appreciate everyone’s timely responses! Based on everyone’s response, it sounds like it is in fact the ABS self check. I was unaware that the tundra had this as I have not heard of other vehicles doing this. I wish there was a notifying light or something that tells you this is happing. When I first heard this sound, I thought my new tundra had a defect. Scary! Thank god for this forum!
