I'm looking for information on 14+ Tundras. Specifically, what to look for.

I see a few threads in the sticky section about 3ur cam tower leaks. I understand it's a pretty involved process fixing it.

What other things should I look for? Common issues? Is there a buyer guide I'm missing?

    Thanks
    D

I'm trying to think what color MGM stands for, but I'm coming up blank.

I really like the overall look of the white pro's, but they are over my budget. Would probably buy a lower trim Tundra and eventually dress it up to look like a pro.

Magnetic Grey Metallic. One thing to know would be the color options :) The cam tower leak happens, but I think its less common than the forums lead you to believe, and doesn't always need to be fixed even if it does happen.

Not much else to really report, they are excellent trucks. I came here doing the same research as you before my purchase and nothing stood out as a persistent issue.

Are you sure passing over the '07 to '13 trucks is prudent?

Oh yeah, I do like that color, However, my driveway is gravel, and about 1/2 a mile long... It's going to make keeping a dark color vehicle clean even harder..

    Awesome, thanks for the info!

So, I owned an 08 CM TRD OR for a while. My biggest issues where these: I hated the way the instrument cluster was styled. I hated, and I really mean it, the port holes the gauges where in... I also didn't really care for the rest taillights, or tailgate.

I guess I just like the way the 14+ body is shaped. I like the more squared up look. I does kinda suck that the drivetrain is basically the same from 07 to 19 (unless I'm missing something?)...

However, the 07-13s are extremely affordable.....

Be prepared to live with a completely boring truck that just needs regular maintenance. Or you could buy a domestic truck if you like hanging out at the dealership.

If I had it to do over again, I’d have bought a 2nd gen - I like the dash layout and the added hp.

Would’ve probably done the 3rd gen front end conversion though.

I also live down a long gravel road and I promise you, no matter what color you choose it'll look dirty all the time. I have 3 different colored vehicles in my driveway and they're all constantly in need of a bath. Toyota doesn't make an ugly color though, so you really can't go wrong. Unless you just don't buy a tundra.. Then you went wrong :p

    Added HP?

I was under the impression that the early 5.7 had aggressive throttle pedal programming the was toned down in the 14+

Don't key in on or be duped by JBL Premium Stereo. Very overrated, sucky at best.

My 08 had a JBL system in it.. I wasn't really impressed, but I generally don't like loud music, so overall, as long as the radio works correctly, I'll be ok. My 08 had a nav system too. It would fail to read the disc and blank out... Very annoying

Same horse power. Just the throttle response is toned down as you say. That can be remedied in a few different ways. Number one is just pressing the tow haul button. You could get a tuner or even one of those little devices that remaps the throttle response. Anyone who says the truck is slower is Trippin LOL

For 18+ you'll have to keep in mind the pre-collision and lane keep assist systems. Those are a pretty divisive topics around here.

Honestly, I will likely be looking at 14-16. Although, I get the idea that 16+ are the ones with the big 38 gal tank?

My 2008 SR5 has leather. Not heated . I think it was an optional upgrade? My JBL six disc system is great! Third gen trucks have a suck ass JBL system.
Get the Carfax report. Check side of engine for cam tower leak. If it has it and it is at a dealer? See if they will fix it?
Stick around for help and education.

    Good luck, d

I would recommend getting a 17 year model or up (i think) bigger 38 gallon gas tank

    A non-tuned 2nd gen vs a non-tuned 3rd gen will beat it. Buddy of mine has dyno'ed a stock 2nd and compared it to a stock 3rd gen's numbers - 2nd gen's was slightly higher.

How involved was that? I understand the basic concept of pulling a fuel tank, but what all did you need aside from the tank itself? Brackets, sending unit, gauge calibration?

    You need a crossmember.

2015 and up (Not sure about 14’s) have the holes in the frame already for the crossmember member, so I used bolts and nuts to mount it down. Everything else from fuel pump, sending unit, I transferred over to the new tank even the fuel lines from my 26 gallon tank. But if you want more info here a great thread from @papasmurf you can check out. I’ve posted on there too.

2014 here 72,239 miles no issues, no cam tower leak. Only issue(very minor one, if you even consider it one) is no oh shit handle on the driver side. Very reliable truck, it makes me smile knowing I drive mine and the only time it sees the dealer is for services. I love it, I wish it had the bigger gas tank.

Do the 14’s have the holes already for the crossmember if you ever wanted to throw an oem 38 gallon tank? 07-13 don’t.
