Upper control arm bolt size

I am starting to source my build parts now and I'm to the upper control arm. Does anybody know the diameter of the upper control arm bolt on the frame side? I don't know if I'm going to do bushings or heims on my new upper arm, but knowing that bolt diameter would be mighty helpful.

I think it's M14.

It's a 22mm hex flange head, and OEM hex flange head body diameters aren't the same as hardware store hex flange head diameters.

That's a start. I can get calipers in there to measure but I don't think I can see them at the same time so if you think it's 14mm and if I measure 14mm then that's two people that agree haha.

Not sure if that info is 1st gen or later.

You need the actual bolt diameter? I can get it but will be a few days before I find my caliper gauge, my tools are all packed right now.

 

Yeah just the diameter. If it's 14mm I think I can get spacer material to easily reduce 3/4" heims and not run any misalignments on the frame side.

 

I checked the garage stock pile and looks like I threw out the old OEM upper arms from my '06. Was thinking I could measure the bolt hole bore diameter. Sorry mate!

 

Anyone know the torque number for the UCA bolts?

 

I don't know about your 2016 but the manual states 72 ft lbs for the 2002. I would assume yours would be close to that.

 

I was able to get calipers on one of the upper bolts (on my 2006) and the best I can tell it's 14mm as previously mentioned. Looks like I can either use common 9/16" ID bushings for my new upper arms or also common 9/16" misalignment spacers on 3/4" or 5/8" heims. Easy peasy, one more piece of the puzzle falls into place.

Daystar and Wheelers sell upper arm poly bushing replacements, just get those. I'm sure Camburg and TotalChaos have them as well. WFO might have the heims on sale right now for Father's Day.

 

I'm making my own arms so I can actually do heimed upper arms and get rid of the cam bolts for the lowers for a similar price of buying someone's bushing kit. Not to mention their bushings fit their arms and maybe I use a different size tubing for the bushing sleeves or whatever. I'm planning on using delrin bushings for the lowers anyway.

I did a similar setup on my other truck and it's great. The alignment never changes unless something gets bent and if that happens you have bigger issues. You set it once and just check it when you think something got screwed up or when you replace joints. Same with heim steering running two right or two left hand heims.

 

you said you were using common bushings, so I just recommended a few that would fit the stock bolt instead of having a loose .011" fit with 9/16 bush over a 14mm bolt
