When Texans call each other neighbor, does that mean you're in the same time zone?

Like many others here as well, depending on the vehicle, the cost, and the extent of the damage, I wouldn't rule out a rebuild.

There's a stigma that accompanies the word rebuilt, or salvaged. I would suspect that most of the thoughts come from having to rely on someone else's repair to keep you safe.

First thing that comes to mind for me is this:

I just didn’t want to buy a salvage title truck from just anybody, because I don’t know if it fixed right and safe. So I only looked at trucks that was hit in the back so all the air bags was in working condition. And I went to a auction so I would know exactly what was damaged in the beginning and I would fix it right. That’s my two bits.

Just so people know about buying a salvage title. Some insurance companies may not insure it cause it was totaled in a wreak or flood. They may feel the car is no longer safe to be on the road. Just check with your INS CO before you buy.

    Mostly correct.

Many financial instatutes will not give out a loan for salvage titled vehicles. They do not know the real value of the vehicle. If the bank doesn't know what it's worth, the insurance company doesn't know either.

This is all true our bank offered to loan me the money for what I paid for it, if I wanted to barrow against it, and State Farm is my insurance company, I have full coverage on it( but I have been with them for many years) But many banks and insurance Companies will not insurance it

I've had one when I was getting out of high school and starting college. It was hit in the front so of course nothing truly lined up like it was supposed too. It was a fun car to drive, but I didn't fully trust it. I needed something to drive though and that was what I could get so I made it work. Now that I have a wife and kid that ride with me, I'll only buy non wrecked now. I don't even really like used vehicles unless I know who had them, but I don't see any reason others can't or don't want them. Doesn't bother me one bit if you prefer, can save some money, get a good deal, etc. What makes you happy is up to you. Congrats on the debt free coming up. That's awesome.

Great score and great looking truck. But I also have the vehicle OCD. One of the reasons I traded my 2017 in on my 2019. It was rear-ended. Flawlessly repaired by the dealership who boasts excellent repair service record. Still messed with me.

Out west we have several different companies and all they sell are Salvaged title vehicles. Once the repair is made the vehicle have to pass an inspection. Once the vehicle passes inspection it is assigned a new vin#. The banks and insurance companies have no problems with financing or insuring these vehicles. You can even buy a warranty for them. I currently own a 2014 CRV EX and a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT. Both have been perfect. I will continue to buy Salvaged title vehicles as they save me a lot of money.

    I don’t understand you can’t get a new vin on a salvage car/truck
What is the name of one of these companies and location please
I found it online, it is called Title Washing.

I was concerned about buying a rebuild title car, unless I knew what was wrecked in the beginning and how it was fixed. That is why I bought it from a insurance auction and did the repairs myself. My Tundra the front and the cab was not touched only the rear part of the bed was damaged, but it was cheaper to buy the entire bed and replace it. Same color and same year I got lucky. I did not want to buy a truck that was hit anywhere else just to be safe.

I'm not sure I believe this. VIN's are never changed on a vehicle.

    Please post the company.

Bought my wifes 2010 sequoia limited 4x4 with 60k on the clock in 2016 for 15k. Put 6k in it to fix the light front damage. No frame damage whatsoever. Air bags deployed in the front. Thats what killed it, but it was still worth it to me to fix. Oh and i got to do the new tundra front conversion. I spent 2 years looking for the perfet sequoia to do this to and this was it!

I love rebuilding vehicles. It's even easier now with the aid of the internet.

Cars have got more complicated, but the info to fix them is easier to aquire.

Only if I had a garage, I'd buy a truck from iaai, fix it and run it until it dies.

    Great info in this thread.

I wouldn't mind a salvage but i would never buy a truck without a title. I see so many scam looking posts on marketplace for $1000 cars with no title. No thanks, I'm not going to pay someone money for a car that they're selling without their spouse's permission and have to give it back later with no refund.

But a salvage? As long as I see the damage and its not rebuilt already. My .02

If I needed parts only I'd buy a truck with no title. In fact it would have to be parted out.

That makes more sense, in fact I endorse the companies that can do this.

    It's just paper.
Toyotas don't get that much cheaper with salvage titled. I know. All my Toyotas were wrecks.
