So my truck threw these codes about a week ago when I started it up after work. According to Google:
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow.
P0445 is Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted.

I'm wondering if the air injection bypass would fix this, although I haven't seen these specific codes listed. Anybody have experience with these codes?

Have you tried replacing your gas cap? My 2002 (non-vvti) had some evap codes and it was fixed with a new cap. They go bad after certain time period.

Your engine being vvti may be a different story.

I have not. But it's been on my list since it's non OEM locking gas cap and I do not have the key lol

@Hooptytrix Is this the common issue with the 05-05 models we were discussing recently? I think the actual fix is a few grand to fix so most people do the bypass you're talking about.

Jon, if you did the bypass would you be able to pass the emissions test?

I just googled the first code and got a lot of results. It looks like most people found a hose had come loose.

    Take a look,

I’ve had two hoses come off at two separate times per your link. Both never threw codes, but maybe I caught them in time? The one loose hose I could smell a faint gasoline vapor inside the cab while driving. That was a quick fix. The other hose may have been loose for months as I don’t think I popped the hood for grins but twice a year back then.

I’d start with hose checks and a new cap, then proceed to the more difficult fixes.

Good pic. I actually had 2 of these hoses come loose last week with no codes. The only way I found it is because the truck made a whistling noise.

    Mine were loose here though,

    Good catch.

I’ve zip tied most all the other non clamped hoses in the past except for your circled area and a couple others due to all the work I had done with the injectors and VCGs last year. All these hoses needed to be decoupled so they’ve been left loose.

Maybe I’ll zip tie these hoses today for something to do.

    More info.

    What causes the P0445 code?
The P0445 code has a number of common causes:

    • Faulty purge control valve
    • Faulty purge control valve solenoid
    • Loose or faulty gas cap
    • Break in a fuel line within evaporative fuel system
    • Loose or corroded wiring around purge control valve circuitry
    • Faulty powertrain control module

Different issue. That code is a fuel tank evap gas leak (fuel tank air). The air from the tank gets routed to a charcoal canister and then into the intake system. You most likely have a loose or crack in the hose. If you're in cold climate the hose can dry up and crack.

Well I deleted the light before taking the truck to the shop for some major maintenance anout a week ago. The light just came on again this morning. Although it was 2 codes again, one was different. P0441 and P0455 instead.of P0445. I didn't see and loose vacuum lines. Going to buy a new fuel cap today.

So I decided to.buy an oem Toyota gas cap this morning since the previous owner had installed and aftermarket locking gas cap and never gave me the key. I went to open the gas door and the cap damn near fell off! Lmao
So hopefully the codes are gone for good now
