That could work. I'd like a solution that allows the use of the trailer hitch as well. Either for towing my trailer or mounting my bike rack.

I'm considering their Max Modular URTC rack which looks a little better. It's also more expensive.

That looks good, though I wonder about accessibility to the front half of the DB HD with a rack. Maybe a rack at the rear and on the cab would be better?

Knocking this idea around right now, subject to change, hope it makes sense.

    US Paddler Rack:

Cut the vertical angle off of bottom of US Paddlers mounting base where it used to be a lip over the inside of the truck truck bed. Use neoprene gasket material as a cushion/spacer between the horizontal piece and Diamondback cover.

    Base with vertical angle:

Use a shortened vertical square post with a square plate welded on to bolt directly to the Diamondback cover. The existing square tube on the rack will slide over the smaller square post on the Diamondback cover. This should make a quick disconnect system.

Male vertical post on right to be shortened and have plate welded on base to be bolted to Diamondback cover. US Paddlers rack base on left with existing female square tube to be reinforced after cutting vertical angle off:

Yea I did up a drawing somewhere just can't find it. I would like it to sit on top of the cover so you can still open it without taking the rack off. I ordered 3 70" bars of this https://8020.net/1530-s-black.html and am going to make some bases that will bolt into the existing hole with the exception of adding holes in the center panel.

Yep, would prefer to open the cover without removing racks, but will only be able to open tailgate with my arrangement.

Well, I called in and ordered an HD and the 8" storage bin on Thursday.

I tried to talk them into color matching and giving is a forum discount. No success on either pursuit. Sorry fellas.

    Is my cover here yet???????

Just finished up the install and tweaking today. Have had it on for about a month, but just got to putting the front seal on today and tweaking the front locks.

I think the next step is to try to seal up the tailgate a bit now, can't have the front be mostly dry and the back be a constant stream coming through.

Cover isn't leaking, it's working perfect. I didn't have the seal on the bulkhead until today, and you could see a small gap on the drivers side at the front which I got rid of by tweaking the cover locks. There's also a couple small gaps in the bed itself between the bulkhead and the sides, along with the tailgate. I'll be buying a tailgate seal at some point, then I'll have to get some silicone seal for the last few gaps.

So the locking pieces don’t get scuffed up on the bed rail if I’m not mistaken

Extruded aluminum came in today. Now I just need to get the bases made to attach to the cover. I went with 1.5x3.0 inch 80/20 aluminum and the bars are 70" long.

Made this today as a mock up for where the rails will sit. End goal is a roof top tent on 3 bars. I think the height should be good, just below the roof

    HD went on today :)
On a side note - I helped my buddy install a BakFlip on his truck the other day and that thing felt flimsy as hell compared to the Diamondback.

Thats a cool set up. My Dad was a surveyor for 30+ years and used a suburban, like the Toyota set up better.

Oh ok I got ya now. Yeah I have the bolt lock for my hitch. It is awesome to be able to use my ignition key to unlock.

Honestly never thought about it for the cover though. I didn't even know that was possible. To be honest I have a very large set of keys, between toys, work, and the fact I dont trust anyone lol. So 1 more for the cover is just that, 1 more to my ridiculous key chain. I actually carry 2 lol.

I’m interested in a diamondback cover. I don’t have the bed rails, would it be better to get them to install it or is installing without them equally effective?

Ask diamondback, they're very knowledgeable and will know for sure. All I can say is mine has the track and works great with it. I'm guessing u can with out it but I can't say for sure. Best bet ask DB, they'll tell u for sure.
