Just the boot ? Or snapped shaft?

That doesn’t look good. Hard to tell what’s going on.

I like your handle though! Is that from Big trouble in little China?

I’m taking it to the dealership Friday. I hope it’s covered under the warranty.

I was kinda hoping there would be a sequel (with Kurt Russel) for that movie.

Yeah, that looks bad, but you really can't tell unless the boot is removed (which you may as well do cause you are gonna need a new one).

Probably a replacement shaft is in order here.

Agreed. I’ve been pretty gentle with this truck , nothing crazy off-road or overloading the bed/towing .

Except you know the dealer is going to blame the lift.

Thats my plan. A two year old truck with less than 55K miles and i bought an extended warranty shouldnt shit the bed going backwards up a hill.

That's pretty low miles but how hard is a CV replacement on these Tundras?

You have to pull the entire shaft to replace boot right?

I heard mixed reviews on doing it to my Tacoma but never had the pleasure!

She looks pretty chooched to me! Let us know what the dealer says that's pretty early for a CV to go out.

It's going to depend on the dealer. My dealer covered my first CV. But they told me the next one won't be covered because of my lift.

I know guys who have done it in a couple hours and others take all day long...

As most say way too early for the CV to blow but gotta weigh the hassle with the expense. If I did it myself I get a "new" CV complete and save the original as a spare....

    Good luck!

Just remember what ol’ Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the Boot leaks grease, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol’ storm right square in the eye and he says, “Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it.

Do you feel any movement in the axle shaft, inside of the CV joint?

The lift may have caused this.
A foreign object may have punctured the boot.

If I was facing these circumstances, I would closely examine the other axle's boots. If they show no signs of being torn, or leaking, I would use that to argue that the lift did not cause the failure (though a foreign object is still in question). If the other side is leaking, I would be prepared to fork out for new boots, and invest in a differential drop. AFAIK the top setting of the 5100s is in fact more lift than a TRD Pro... by about 0.5" on paper.
The foreign object can be ruled out by cleaning and carefully inspecting the boot. If the boot was punctured, there would be witness marks to support that. If there's no puncture marks in the torn boot, and the other side is not leaking, you have some merit to your argument IMO.

What if the dealer did the lift? I have a copy of the service done to mine, dealer sent to a shop to do lift, then it was sold to it's first owner, I'm second owner

Look into your state or local laws on modifications made prior to time of sale. I have a feeling this will only apply to the original purchaser.

FWIW, Georgia is one of a few states that protect the consumer in this regard - there may be other states, but I'm not sure. An automotive manufacturer is not able to deny warranty coverage due to a modification that was made to the vehicle at or before time of sale.
