so I’m buying a two axle 7x12 trailer. If I remember correctly it can handle up to 5000lbs payload. Will my 2016 tundra platinum be ok with towing this trailer. I don’t plan on towing it everyday. I’m getting it because I’m buying a house. And I wanna be able to have a trailer for yard work and some extra stuff. That’s it. Doubt I’ll ever reach 5000k payload. However the single axle I felt like did not have enough. It was under 2K payload.

If you are going down steep grades (6% or more) you might want to get a Brake Controller. I bought the Tekonsha P3 and the harness adapter. It just plugged in to a plug on the left side of where your left foot rests.

He should have a factory controller on his 16 Platinum.

You have a much better controller than the factory one.

Yeah. My platinum has the brake controller built in from factory. So even if the trailer was fully loaded. The truck should be able to handle it no issues? I tend to over think things. And I like to go big or go home. That’s why I rather get dual axle then single. JUST INCASE.

Shouldn't be a problem. Like others have said if you're towing heavy loads downhill, you'll want working trailer brakes.

I pull my 14 footer tandem axle several days a week, the truck does it no problem it's like you don't have a trailer behind you.

Why so short? I would go 16’.

I don’t know. I think I’ll be very happy with 12ft. So my concern was, am I still in the factory recommend category ? With this 70TV 7x12 trailer. Rated at 5k lbs payload ?

Payload on the truck and payload on the trailer are two different things. Payload on the trailer is your towing capacity. The towing capacity on your truck should be around 9000 to 10,000 lbs. With a trailer that has a payload of 5000 you will be fine

As far as the trailer goes I suggest buy the most trailer you think you'll ever need. As I get older Im more of a follower of the buy once cry once pholosify. I originally bought a 6x8 single axle trailer and always wished I had bought a bigger one. Recently I bought a 14ft tandem axle with 3500 lb axles. I should have just bought the bigger trailer to begin with.

your truck will handle up to 9,000 lbs tow you will be fine but pulling any trailer with much weight put in a brake box if you dont have one safer and save your truck brakes and roaters

Yes, you will be just fine. Look in your owners manual and it will show you what the GCVWR and GTWR is on your truck.

16’ is pretty small, and if I could do it over again, this would be a 18’ with a dovetail. I forgot how high the tires lift the trailer that come with 7200 lbs axles.

I pull a 20’ trailer @ 6500lbs per axle with no problem on my gen 2. 5 round bales pushing close to 9000’ with trailer. I would get a dual axle trailer for sure if I was you.

If you are in a rust State like me (WI) you must buy aluminum. Buying steel is like throwing money in the garbage.
In Green Bay this guy is mega-cheap. He lists his stuff on Craigslist rather than his website.

I agree. But I can’t seem to find one that’s like the BigTex 70TV style. Also, certified welder/iron-worker. If anything f I could fix it

    This.
Tandem axle for sure. They tow better and can potentially save your cargo if you have a blowout.

What is the length and unloaded weight of that trailer?

I've considered getting an 8.5 x 20-22' cargo hauler and converting it to a toy hauler. Thanks.
