What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I copied pro hand model and grinded mine down like this. Worked!!

 

Yes, I removed the frame support and the plastic step pads, then painted (with bed coating) the entire bumper front and back/360 degrees. (after scuffing with a Scotchbrite pad)

Reason being that they rust from the back side/underside. Then the rust works its way through the entire bumper. Hopefully this bed coating will hold up an prevent that.

I'm almost done treating my frame with POR-15, then I'll give the whole truck (including the rear bumper) an undercoating with boiled linseed oil. That should keep it well protected.

 

How are you treating/painting the inside box frame?

 

Did you use the flexible hose or the stiff rod on the grease tip application? I found the stiff rod extension helped tremendously.

Yeah I remember you posting this but that's not the problem I have. The tip of my grease gun goes right over the zerk but doesn't latch. It's too big. I don't understand why you had to grind the outside. Was it just that tight in there to where it wouldn't fit? Which zerk was that?

 

Front drive shaft for the 4wd. To tight to fit the grease tip without grinding it down.

 

Yeah that's the one I'm hoping to grease. I didn't have that issue though. I'll let everyone know if this kit works.

 

I’m lucky in that my truck came from California, and has only spent one winter in the northeast — although I think it spent a year in Alaska.
I’m not treating the inside of the box portion of the frame with POR-15 — it doesn’t need it.
But I think I’ll use your rag-on-a-fish stick idea you posted earlier to apply the boiled linseed oil.

Eventually I would like to buy dirty deeds headers.and full exhaust. But I live in an emissions testing county, because of my proximity to Houston, so I gotta have cats and o2 sensors

 

My stuff is registered in Julian CA at my parents house, dont have to do CA stupid smog anymore.

 

Oh... I assumed it was a statewide thing.

 

The population of Julian is around 1500. I guess that not enough for the state of CA to mess with them. I'm not 100% sure why but Julian residence dont have to smog their cars n trucks

 

That tip was grinded down to fit the 4wd front prop. The removed area on the tip allows to penetrate all the way to the bottom on the zerk, by snugging past the ujoint assy/yoke, thus allowing the grease to be pumped in.

Before my regular zerk that does all the rear prop zerks would fit on the front prop zerks but would not bottom out and the grease would cream out all around the tip versus penetrate the zerk hole.

 

Should I report this??

Oh yeah, shit I didn’t even know we had one running through the town I grew up in until I got hired on with them.

 

I do every oil change, 1-2 pumps is good.

 

I do, but I've only had mine a week.

This is my plan. I didn't mention it but when I picked up the truck I asked the manager if they greased them and he assured me they did. Fast forward 30 minutes and I had left and then came back due to the ABS issue. As we're discussing that the tech that actually did the install comes running out with a grease gun saying he forgot to grease them. Needless to say, I wonder what else they overlooked. I'm going to check the torque on everything this weekend. I doubt they even followed the proper torque requirements as they went.

As for the greasing, how is it possible to just keep adding it in there? That joint can only hold so much. Does it eventually work its way out of the rubber boot?

That's an interesting thing to know. That would open a lot of doors for my turbo car.

 

I wouldn't grease the ball joints so often. If they aren't leaking they don't need it, if they aren't leaking and you give it to them they're going to start leaking.

SPC says this. But I agree that seems a bit excessive. Eventually there is no more room in there to accept grease.
