Can you add heated seats to an SR5? Anyone done this themselves?

Yes you can. I have an SR5 and my dealer sent my truck to a performance shop. They installed katskins with seat heaters.

Yes, when I installed my Leather seats from Leatherseats.com I put 2 pads (1 on the back rest and the other on the seat). Installed the switches in the most convenient I could think of.

When we purchased my wifes 4 Runner we had the dealership add the option of heated seats and Katzkin seat covers. They had a local shop remove the fabric covers, add the heated seat pads, add the switches, tie in the wiring and install the katzkin seat covers. Looks like a factory install. Cost us about $2k.

I read online somewhere that you have to be careful with interfering with the airbag on/off sensor (say passenger seat side). I know, internet is not always the best place. Anyone have any issues with this after installing heating pads? Also, any fear of fire from pads being installed on the cushions? Thanks.

Are you refering the passenger airbag? I have not had any issues with it. I installed them a year ago and the sensor still is able to pick up a passenger, and there haven't been any false positives with the seat heater on.

People should use common sense when using the seat heaters especially aftermarket types, like leaving them on when you use remote start, leaving them on and not being there to supervise, or not installing them correctly. The carbon fiber used to evenly heat the pad can be damaged by cutting to much from the pad when installing to the seat or sharp objects puncturing the heating pad. I would also recommend leather or vinyl (if you can't afford leather) seats as cloth seats may no work as effective, just my opinion. Vinyl has changed a lot over the years and with any things proper care can prolong the life.

When using them be mindful of the the settings. I turn mine on high when I first get in the my truck to warm them up but then put it on low to maintain the warm temp.

Ditt0 - Katzkin - wanted heat and cooled, but the leather I had ordered and they puton wouldn't support the cooling function. It cost me $499 to install the heated, but that was while they were upgrading my seats to leather....

How much in total did you pay for them to install. Mine cost about 1400 for the leather and the heaters, for the 2 bucket seats w/heater and rear seats.

Then I got robbed - I paid 1900 for all seats (crew max) and the heaters. They are Katskins leather, what leather did you get?

Heard that about fires - but had them in my old tundra for 6 years without a problem. Mine are wired to shut off when the truck is stopped and they will not come on when you start the truck until you turn them on, regardless of the position of the switch.

I have had mine over a year, I also have wired them to come on only when started (with a switch of course) . Most vehicles that come with them from factory have a time they stay on high before switching to low, at least that is how my wife's dodge Journey is. I would say some of those fires are user error, improper care, checking the wiring every once in a while.

Leatherseats.com that's the brand. I wanted to get katskinz leather but I had to go to a dealer and didn't want the hassle of driving to pick them up and listen to some guy trying to convince me to have them do it.

Just received my Watercarbon brand seat heaters. Came with a switch (dual pole single switch for the slot next to my USB/AUX port in TRD PRO Crew Max... Bench tested the unit, FAIL..... no power out of the switch to replay... there are plenty of videoa out there and here in the Tundra archives..... suggest you use them so you're not breaking anything./
