    Hi all!
    I am trying to install this radio with this backup camera. I know I need the metra harness and a dash kit. I understand how the wire the radio but I do not understand how to wire the backup camera to the reverse lights? The wire is 19.6ft long, so I will need to buy an additional RCA cable to lengthen it. So that radio itself needs to be connected to a reverse wire, and the camera needs to be connected to a reverse wire and to the radio. Without running a wire from the radio to the back of the truck, how can I run a wire from the radio to a reverse signal? I am likely a blathering idiot but I simply do not understand how to install the camera. Any help would be appreciated!

    The camera is usually tapped at the reverse light. I believe that is what triggers or powers the camera.

    Ok, I understand that part. I don't understand how to get the RCA wire of the camera from the tailgate to the cab of the truck? I also do not understand how the wire the radio for the reverse function, it includes a wire for reverse. Also, when wiring the radio itself, you go + to + and - to -, right?

    The RCA wire will have to be ran to the radio. Best / easiest way possible. most try and combine or ty-wrap to existing wire bundles possibly in loom. Thinking into cab at front passenger door.

    For this reason I paid an install shop like $200 for the radio / camera install. 1.5 hrs later it was done.

    Ok, I think I will install the radio myself and have BestBuy install the back up camera portion. For the radio part, you should go + to + and - to -, right?

    For power yes. There may be a harness for install that makes it plug and play.

    Also, just looked at your radio choice. It may work fine but I would recommend a lower end Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, or JVC. Some name brands that have been around a while.

    Good luck!

    What about for speakers? Still + to + and - to -? I might look into the JVC/kenwood. I really like that it is 7in, has carplay, and include steering wheel controller. My tundra does not have steering wheel controls, so the ability to easily have them is awesome. I also like that it is only $199.

    Yes ++ & --.

    Not sure about adding steering wheel controls, or how easily done. I wouldn't think very easy, would need new steering wheel at minimum.

    Basically what you will want to do if you install the camera yourself is use one of the rear taillights for power by taping into the reverse light. You will then need to run a wire from the positive wire at the taillight to the head unit and connect it to the wire on the head unit labeled for the reverse light. This will tell the head unit that you are in reverse. The other way is to find the reverse wire in one of the connectors behind the kick panel (others can tell you exactly where it is and what color) and tap into it.

    When you get the dash kit you should get the connector too. With it will come a wiring diagram, just match it up to the diagram that comes with the radio. That radio you have listed doesn't seam to have GPS so you're not going to need to worry about installing the GPS antenna (if you do I would do like I did and install it on the dash near the clock. I simply drilled a hole by hand large enough to push the connector through it and then used the double sided tape to stick it in place. I placed it so it covers most of the hole). But you'll most likely need to install the mic for the handsfree (I put mine just above the speedometer partially hidden by the steering wheel). The remote is wireless so nothing needed other than sicking it where you want it.

    If you do install the rear back up camera yourself there's a couple plastic plugs under the rear seat. Simply put a hole in one and run the RCA and power cable through it. A much better way than drilling a hole in the sheet metal. What I did was run the wires from the passenger's taillight following the wire harness that's already there using lots of zip ties to secure it to the harness. Once inside the cab I removed the plastic threshold pieces and ran the wires under them then behind the glove box. I would suggest soldering any wire to wire connections. If your handy it'll take an afternoon.

    Ok, a lot has happened since I last replied. Here is the status, I have bought all the necessary parts. I wired the radio to the metra harness with butt connectors(really really hope they work), the dash kit will arrive from Amazon tomorrow. In the middle of wiring, I ran out of butt connectors and so i went to buy more from the same place I had just bought them from but they didnt have the same exact ones. The new ones were better. If the radio does not work when I go to install, I will either remove the old butt connectors and start over or I will use wiring nuts. I plan to install, w/o backup camera, tomorrow. I will have best buy install the backup camera. I know you said where I could put the microphone, but do you have any recommendations as to how I can route it there? This is my first radio install on any vehicle, let alone one I was just given last week, so please pardon my idiocracy.

    Check this guy out. Yes it’s older but relevant info and great pictures. Look at the page about OEM backup camera. Ignore the voltage info if using an aftermarket camera that just needs 12v. The wires up in the headliner area go up the driver side a pillar. I am about to do a similar install on my truck this weekend and will be searching these out.
