What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

An ABS sensor is a pretty simple device. It's a Hall Effect sensor: it measures changes in magnetic field as the ABS tone ring moves past it. There's not a lot to go wrong with it, unless it's been physically struck, or the wiring or harness have been compromised. What @empty_lord was saying is you should remove the sensor and inspect it. The tip of the sensor is magnetic, so small pieces of metal can stick to the tip, which can effect the reading. Inspecting is simple to do, and costs nothing.

 

Just picked her up a couple months back, she was bone stock.
The past weeks I've been working on her every weekend, Wife hasn't been to happy about it

-new upper ball joint (Toyota), new lower ball joint (Toyota) , new front wheel bearings, tint front windows, weathertec mats, Toytec boss kit up front (still have to install the rear), raceline wheels 17x9, BF ko2 285/70/17, rough country bull bar (light bar soon), pioneer avh 211ex head unit, slim 8" sub under driver seat, back up camera, fluid flush, tune up.

Thinking about adding a side step as well later on.

Anything I missed I should consider?

Backup camera. Used the Natika off of Amazon for $40, works like a charm.


ETA: love the bronze on the black, super clean truck.

 

I forgot to mention the backup camera as well. It was a package deal with the head unit for 200$. Not sure of the brand, it's one of the cameras that extends from one side of the plate to the other

I'll do you a favor and tell you how that job could be easier bud. Trade me wheels and tires and you'll save half an inch of lifting.


I feel like I'm always doing some sort of self torture by lifting stuff that should need two people, but I hate waiting on others if I need a hand.

 

Did you take it off and clean it? If its coated in grime it won't work properly.

Did you adjust the brake proportion valve?

Yeah, I’ve been lucky while moving heavy shit solo, especially at work. We have forklifts for a reason. It keeps me feeling young though.

 

@Mr. Pink that's looking really nice. I've been considering side steps lately because my wife is having a hard time getting in and out, she tore her ACL around March. I think I will get sliders instead and add a step plate to them.

I was checking out the nfab step ups. Is that what you mean by sliders ?

 

Thanks man. These are sliders, they're more for protection when you are off road, keeps you from hitting your doors or body panels on anything. They weld or bolt on, I would tack on a plate as a step.

I think others have chimed in with better info, and you've probably already made your decision, but for something like a paint job, in which I would see and be irritated by mistakes I made every single time I see them, letting pros do it would be worth $200 to me, even aside from better match and warranty. Especially if they handle the effort and expense of removing hardware, masking, etc.

On a completely different topic, though, I have a favor to ask: any chance you could measure the height of the shell ceiling inside the bed?

I managed to snag a cab-high shell off craigslist pretty quickly back when I bought my Tundra, but ultimately I want a mid-rise or high-rise shell. My goal is to be able to sit comfortably upright on the drawer / sleeping platform I made, and needless to say, the cab-high doesn't allow that. I'm curious how much more space yours has vs mine.

 

I ordered the brute Force sliders with a step. Should show up in July.

 

I just cleaned it. It didn't appear dirty and looks fine. I also adjusted the proportion valve up a few threads. We'll see if this helps. Thanks for the suggestions.

 

How was your billet grille attached? Does it mount over the existing grille assembly, or did you have to cut out those 2 plastic pieces with the chrome on them, and then install the billet? Yours looks killer, and I've been wanting to do something similar for my 03 with the old school TOYOTA logo.

 

Not sure if your are aware, but that V8 emblem can be disassembled.

The silver V8 tabs can be neatly broken off the backside/inside of the big black plastic body thus allowing you to remove the ‘V8’ in two pieces from the main frame attachment.

That can give you a flatter/flusher look that you might like. Looks good! You are stoked!!!

Not many bed mats available for our trucks so I decided to try the universal bed rug. It feels a little cheap but it’s awfully comfy! We will see how it holds up long term!

 

Nice. I may look into that. I'm just experimenting with it still. So far I just trimmed up the backing and used some double sided tape and foam strip to hold it on. I may remove it tonight before work. I don't know if it will survive lol

Edit: now that you mention it, I should remove it and paint the V8 white

 

I experimented with mine as well and thats how I discovered the V8 could be removed.

New sway bar bushings. Old ones were pretty munched.

 

That will look good painted white.

The above pic was just for looks to see how I liked it. I used duct taped for temporary, but did not drive with it. The below pic is is what I settled on and is a Toyota Emblem for a Tercel. It is OEM with a sticky high quality backing already provided. Basically peel and stick.

It has a cool slant on the emblem face unlike I’ve ever seen. I guess the slant offset a curve on the Tercel door down low? Didn’t realize when I bought it, but it works.

 

43.5” at the middle which is the highest point.

I think I am taking to Maaco. It’s an old truck and I don’t care about perfect, but shittiest Maaco job will be better than my rattle can attempt. Price difference is too small for me to do it.

 

Just sent this idea over to my embroider and she says, ‘Perfect! Looks good and should be easy to do.’

Question for you guys: Black or Dark Red lettering?
