    Hi Everyone,

I bought the bed rail kit for my 19 Tundra TRD Sport Crewmax from the dealer and had them install it. They told me they couldn't because my bed had spayon bed liner which was added at port. It covered over the screw holes. Anyone else get that? They couldn't install their own accessory.

That's BS! A utility knife around the hole will get the liner off.

I smell BS. What's so hard to knock the liner out of the holes.

Just install the railt kit yourself. It only takes a few minutes and a torx screwdriver. Also, if there is spray on liner in the holes, just dig it out and install.

Hearing dealership stories like this scare me....if they can’t get past bed-liner....do I trust them doing anything remotely engine related? o_O

Torx not Phillips 25 or 30 I think

Also, on the plus side, now you know not to let those idiots anywhere near your truck. I did this in my drive way while drinking a beer.

It takes longer to get the bolts off for mods when they have spray liner over them than it does to take a drill bit or punch and make a hole.
Do it yourself. Should take under twenty minutes.

Also, do yourself a favor and use stainless steel bolts if none were supplied. Digging the liner out takes no time and if you throw a couple shots of PB Blaster in the holes, you're golden

The existing holes are threaded and there to accept the screws that come with the rails. DIY holes not needed or necessary. Grab an awl and just feel around for the hole, it will be soft where the hole is. Find one, cut away liner with utility knife. Once you find one mount rail and the holes in the rail will show you exactly where the other holes are. For the front rail, mount it with the fixed mount in the middle, just insert over the mount and slide to right. Then it will locate the other 4 holes. Clean liner away, drink beer, repeat.

Easy to do, and you can’t really screw anything up.

I didn’t use a tap, just run the provided screw until you feel resistance, then back it out, clean it off and thread it in again until it goes all the way in without resistance.

I have tools that make tools, but most people have a hard time locating a screw driver. They are for sure not gonna know what a tap is or how to use it. And a slip of the wrist there will ruin the threads.

You'd think they would hold Toyota dealers to the same standards. Who told you this? Sales guy or service?

They do, but it’s based on customer reviews and quarterly / yearly audits. If the service manager knows his shit then his crew will as well. I find most dealers have service managers wearing so many hats that chaos reigns.

This is a 20 to 30 minute install. No reason why they couldn’t have knocked this out while you had a coffee.

My driveway is available to any and all locals with no tools. Chances are you do something professionally that I couldn’t do..

Drop a pm or email. Yes, I am serious.

I see how I wrote that incorrectly. I didn’t mean make your own new holes. I meant find the ones and uncover them like buried treasure and it takes twenty minutes.

What the heck? Mine has a spray-in bedliner and the rails, so it's certainly possible. Heck, just do it yourself. Use the holes in the rails to figure out roughly where the holes are in the truck and poke around (for cosmetics, keep that poking under the area where the rails will go). Once you find the holes, clean them out with a pocket knife or similar. After that, it's just a matter of screwing bolts into the existing nuts behind those holes - a bolt-on option that shouldn't take you all that long.
