    This only works on Doublecabs.
    920CAB70-30B6-4AEA-B30E-F176BFC34A4D.jpg

Here's @JMB's original write up to cutting the hooks.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/dc-fold-down-rear-seats.699/

There’s an easier way to do this mod by hammering down the rear hooks just enough for the seats to hook on.

    9D7C8780-5BD4-4277-B346-FD6A22740CD0.jpg

But I found that it causes the seat to recline back just enough to interfere with the sliding rear window. Not a big deal if you don’t have the slider or if you have a manual slider as you can just pull on the headrest a bit to get the window open. But if you have an electric slider, it’ll get caught on the headrest.

Yep indeed, this is one of those must do mods. The best return for the investment! I have a lot of stuff back there and all it cost was a little bit of time. There was a guy from another forum that was fabricating the hooks at the right size and powder coating them. Sold for around $50.00, i think. I would not run the grinder in the cab, myself, be to afraid of pits in the glass or holes in the upholstery. Wasn't too bad pulling 'em off.

Yeah gotta love free mods. I would have pulled off the hooks but couldn't find my torx bits. They're probably with my 10mm socket. Dammit. Anyways, all I had was my folding torx key set and I just couldn't get it in there. So I just used a big plastic tub to shoot the sparks into with a couple of rags around it and it was fine.

What's crazy is, all Toyota has to do is shorten the hooks by 1 inch and we would all have folding seats. Why Toyota why?

    Hi jack alert
So yeah, several things about Toyota corporate decisions defy comprehension:
    1) No rear diff locker EVEN ON THE PRO
    2) No grab hanle, drivers side
    3) This, rear seat fold down

    Why oh why

A tip of the hat to you. You are a bold man to throw those sparks inside the cab. Maybe you have a career training all the dumass welders that I have that can start even a piece of steel on fire.

When I bought my first welder many years ago, I was living in an apartment. I was so excited to try welding but nowhere to do it. So, I set up shop in my living room and taught myself how to weld. Grinding metal and welding over carpet and furniture all around teaches you real fast how to manage sparks. :notsure: Or atleast try to... Lets just say I didn't get my security deposit back. But thanks for the write up John. I wouldn't have done the mod if I didn't see yours.

Being a welder and having sprayed spark and slag on surfaces all around as well as starting numerous unintentional fires I am also impressed!

I am wondering the same myself. Someone at Toyota corporate decided that it was better to have seats that fold up. That someone probably drives a Camry. First thing I noticed when I looked at the Tundra brochure was the picture of the back seats folded up. I thought that sucks. I leave the back seat down in Tacoma all the time. The fabric is protected, I have storage behind it, and a flat place to put stuff.

What do the brackets look like before/after? They look the same in all of your photos...

UPDATE: I just looked at the other forum post. I understand now.

I've never looked behind the seats on a CM but probably has something to do with the dropping rear window. Look and see if you have the same seat hooks as us. Maybe it's possible?

And I have no idea how the CM seats work, but while you're folding your seat up, the back has to lift up about an inch for it to work.

Oh, I just thought of something. Maybe there's no room back there on a CM because of the drop down window. You might want to see if there's even any space behind the seats before you go through all the trouble.

you know when I was at a dealership looking to buy my tundra I seen they had one in the showroom a 1794 crewmax with all the bells&whistles and I noticed that behind the back seats they actually had a subwoofer installed back there so I know for a fact there is space behind the seats I just haven't seen anyone with a write up on how to access that space i think this will be on my list of future mods

Is this mod possible on the crewmax. I have a 2015 CM and there is alot of room behind the seats and I'm tired of trying to stuff things back there from the side or from under the seats ( I always have my back seats folded up for the pup) but jackets, hats, gloves, treestand seat pad, first aid kit etc.. all fit just access sucks

I can't attest to this but the Sub woofer may lie just below where the window rolls down to. It probably a little 8" sub.
