Thanks! Yep, put it all on myself. I’ve had a few lifted 4runners and Tacomas so I’ve been wrenching on Toyotas for awhile.

 

Tell u what Holden, it certainly feels that way and it's probably not too far off from being the truth. I still have probably 4 or 5 more trailers full of split pieces to bring up and stack for next heating season. When I'm finally done with that I'm right back into cutting and splitting for the year after in the fall. As if my regular job manually labored filled wasn't enough.

My tundra part pile as u can see in pic is getting too big. I just need the time and energy to start putting a dent in it.



I'm hoping I can get to this pop n lock over the weekend.


With a job that my phone can ring at any given moment and 2 young boys both active in sports, I know better than to make the plans to get it done. I don't even get the time I need to get shit done, let alone relax lol.

There should be a member truck of the month. Someone with higher powers on here, pick 5 trucks, then have a pole for the most votes. Do it every month, for 11 months, then take all winners and put them in a pole and have truck of the year.

 

Still got this to bring up n stack covered. Already got another monster pile of lengths sitting next to this ready to be cut n split in fall.


But of course these 2 little badasses come 1st. If anyone out there is thinking of stealing them on me, trust me, you'll be trying your damndest to get them back to me not long after u take them lol. Still love em to death and they always come 1st above all else. My 10 n 5 yr old built like little grown ass men. The young 1 loves to help me with everything, but gets more in the way than can help. The older 1 that could actually make things easier on me couldn't be bothered unless I make him. I mean look at those sneaky eyes on the little 1 and trust me, he's more than a handful. He's the reason anyone would be looking to give them back to me soon as they took em. My 2 brute boys.

I've seen some pics of ur 4 yr old on the other site and he's a cute lil fella. Trust me, boys at that age are much better off drawing with chalk in the driveway. Take it from a man where the 5 yr old is attached to the hip with help. I love it and it's a curse at same time. Everything takes so much longer with the 5 yr old actively "helping". Then they get to the age of my older and they're nowhere to be found playing with their own friends both outside and on video games. U cant win lol.

 

I've got a 11yr old and a 16yr old, both boys, yeah, I prayed hard, lol. Just wait till they start driving. Very proud and very scared at the same time.

That's exactly what I like most about this site, the comrodery we have for each others trucks, over the hate. The hate on some of the other sites, um humm tundra crew f.b is outta control. That's exactly why I try to contribute and help on this site rather than just look from a distance on the others.

My son got his permit on December 24th. He just finished drivers ed on Tuesday.

 

Same here prayed hard for boys, I'd be way too overprotective of a daughter. I hear u on that Travis, funny u mention, I just scared myself the other day telling my 5 yr old his big bro will be driving in 6 more years. I can see a bit of my craziness in them already so they might be in trouble. I also catch myself telling them the same my dad told me, if you're gonna be dumb u better be tough lol.

He's a pretty good driver, kinda a natural. My daughter scared me when she was learning. I'm trying to hold off as long as possible to schedule his road test, I can't imagine how much my car insurance is going to go up. He wants to schedule it ASAP, I try not to bring that subject up.

 

It gets a little less stressful each day that goes by. The 1st time he drove out of the driveway, by himself, holy hell, I walked the floors and it felt like I smoked a pack of cigarettes, I am a smoker. It was unfreaking real the emotions that run through you. On a side note, this is what he cruises around in.

 

That's kinda how we felt with our daughter, my wife was tracking her IPHONE to see if she got where she was going.

 

Yep, my wife has a Verizon hum in her Tahoe, we got him one as well. Pretty handy little bastards. You can set perimeters, speed limits and a few other things. If they go out of the perimeter or over the speed you set it at, it sends you a text message. They also let you know if anything mechanical pops up, it plugs into the ob2 port.

Tnx for the info on the tracking, although I'm sure by the time mine are ready, being that it's technology, those will be old news and something better will be out then. It's good to know those things exist already for when my 2 nutcases are ready.

It still boggles my mind how much a parent can care for their kid. I never would've thought it'd happen to me but here I am. U don't really comprehend or appreciate it until u go through it yourself.

 

Yeah his Tacoma is super clean, it's a 2000 with only 150k miles, had 140 when I bought it. The previous owner took the Tacoma part of the door emblems off and replaced with the same size hilux emblem, looks OEM, they also did hilux decals on the bed.

 

See it fooled me at 1st. Now that I look at it again I see it. But I'll admit fooled me at 1st quick glance. Either way, great looking truck.

 

Haha, don't feel too bad, it fooled a couple of the young service advisors and my local Toyota dealership. I shit you not, one of them actually called someone on his phone, as was like, dude, you ain't gonna believe this shit, a man just brought a hilux in for service, started taking pics and shit. Lol.

Newbie question here, but why is it called a leveling kit if it rides higher in the front?

 

Bc from the factory they come with a little rake meaning the rear sits a bit higher than the front. The leveling kit will raise the front end a bit to make it even with the rear making it look level from front to rear. They are helpful in gaining ground clearance and fitting larger tires.

Hope that helps explain in a clear easy way. No dumb questions here, always a learning experience.

 

Factory settings have a rake lower in front so as you tow/haul you don’t sag or scoot your rear end. Leveling kits are larger in the front end to compensate for the factory rake to level your truck out

 

This might help too. They come stock that way so when the truck squats towing it has a bit more room in the rear to squat.

Since I tow a decent amount offroad I wanted a little slight rake but still to look pretty level. I also knew I could benefit with the extra clearance and would be putting on much bigger tires for offroad. So I put a +3 shackle in the rear raising it an inch and 3/4 in the rear, also added 2 shims up front. The shims are 1/2 inch each so it raised the front a total of an additional inch. With adding the shims and shackle I was able to keep the pro suspension which I paid extra for getting the pro, yet still gain a little more lift without sacrificing ride quality and keeping the suspension I wanted.

Hope that might help explain in a little more detail to take it to the next level of understanding.

It is not higher in the front. These pictures might look like it because I was parked in the sloped driveway and the one on site is uneven ground so the front wheel might have been in a little bit of a hole. The measurements are exactly the same front to back. Before the kit the front was about 1.6" lower than the back. Now it is still .1" (negligible) lower, but definitely not higher.
