New 2018 Tundra SR5 owner here. Love the truck, but there are no puddle lights or other outside lights that will illuminate the doors.

I have factory running boards. I am thinking some sort of tape light or such that maybe I can tie into the interior lights? That way they would come on with the fob or when I open the doors.

Has anyone done this? Not sure if the adhesive style would stay on, or if there are different brightnesses that might be better.

    Thanks in advance!

That is nice.. I was thinking I had to do a long strip on each side.. but that actually makes sense to do two small to light at each door. So where did you connect to the cargo lights? I was thinking of running to the underdash light

Yes. They are a close fit to the cab so I had to put the lights underneath, but I like the way the light comes up through the steps. Its nice to see what I'm about to step in, as well as see if anyone is hanging around (or under) the truck at night.

So you tied into both the driver and passenger sides? I'm assuming that way you didn't have to run wire from one side of the truck to the other? Or I'm missing something... I'm not the most knowledgeable about wiring science Haha.

So I'm about to pull the trigger on the lights. I think I will just tap into the footwell light, that way the lights will fade on and fade off. I should be able to flip the interior light switch to manually turn them one as well. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Running-Bo...rentrq:f644be381670a9ccac0e8e94fff4c123|iid:1

I think these look fairly decent. I might mount them up on the frame so I get light thrown onto the running boards and the ground around the truck.

Can you give me some tips on how to test which wire to tap into for the running lights? I am going to give this a shot so all info is greatly appreciated!

Ive gone through 3 different sets on my amp boards. The best I've found was from @mattgecko they are fantastic. 2 Ohio winters and they are as good as the day I installed.

Thanks for the tip! More specifically, do you have any tips on locating the hot wire under the kick plate so I tap into the correct wire and can still use the switch on the dash etc.?

I just used the the little parking brake bulb socket and tapped into that to wire up my running board lights and it works great.

So you guys are all using the existing wiring to supply all the power to your puddle lights, or are you using them to trigger a relay?

Hmmmmm, I’ve been debating doing this but didn’t want to run a dedicated power wire. This changes things!

I tapped the footwell light as well. I like that the lights fade on and off with the lock/unlock keyfob use. Ordered two strips of LEDs off of Ebay and bought a roll of wire. Needed the extra wire to run over to the passenger side.

These are the strips I got and got extra wire as well to run from passenger tod river side and tucked the wires out of site behind the curtain under the passenger seats

Ok everybody, I’m stupid. How are you running your wires from under the rear drivers side under the kick plate out and under the truck? I just looked pretty hard and didn’t see a way to bring it out. I have a set of lights just BEGGING ME to put them on.
    Thanks!

Well I ran mine across the front. Tucked down into the console and out through the passenger front door kick plate.

When you pull up the kick plate you'll see some holes that look like they don't go anywhere. You'll need a flash light and a thin wire like safety wire. Just under the hole where the body is pinch welded, you can get the safety wire through it and I was able to pull the wires through using a small hook with the wires pinched to it.
