I agree. I wish Toyota would do something similar at least with the Off Road and Pro models. Just a rear locker would go a long way in my book. And, possibly the addition of the crawl control system. I would only use it if absolutely necessary. I have a friend who instructs at Overland and teaches Military off road courses. He is not big on nannies but says the Atrac and crawl control are pretty amazing systems.

I'm no expert but i think a lot of ppl feel like Atrac is pretty great. Correct me if i'm wrong, in Toyota's mind, doesn't Atrac take the place of something like a locker? Some sort of electrical sensors working better than the traditional locker set-up? maybe i'm off but i think that's the idea with the Atrac system.

The TFL system has an INSANE video of using Atrac in the 4Runner PRO, worth a watch if you haven't seen it before. i was laughing like crazy with hard hard that guy ran the 4Runner...

Yeah, my buddy explained it well as he is one of those guys that was born with a wrench. I don't know the true mechanics behind them all but he does say Atrac itself is pretty amazing. I think there are certain situations where a locker would be great insurance.

I’d be shocked if there wasn’t a rear locker available when the next gen comes. Every other half ton now has one available.

Of course, due to tightening emission requirements and similar, Toyota has made it very clear (many times over the last ten or so years) they no intention of ever coming out with a diesel truck for the U.S. market. Further, since diesels don't sell all that well (a small percentage of sales for each manufacturer), there's also not enough market (within Toyota's sales numbers) to justify the production costs. Toyota has to maximize profits with what they have, not weaken sales of any one vehicle by alternatives.

Well... sure hope I dont regret buying this 2019 I just landed...

Are people comfortable yet lifting the 2018-2019s or am I better off driving it stock and selling it later?

I was torn between my new 19 TRD limited tundra and the Ram power wagon... the reliability is what finalized the deal... and the power wagons crappy payload and tiny fuel tank.

Oh well, hopefully I’ll just enjoy it. The new 2020+ tundra info and TSS problems are reallyyyyy bumming me out. I want to lift this truck 3-4”, but am now reading that I can’t without problems. Do the newest 19s have that TSS recall fixed? My 19 doesn’t show any recalls on the Toyota owners website when I search my VIN. My wife’s 16 4Runner trail is what convinced me that buying a Toyota was a good idea

Look at it this way - if you are worried about lifting a 2019, what makes you think the next generation Tundra will be any different? The TSS isn't going anywhere. Also, I haven't researched it, but I'm assuming the Ram power wagon you were considering is like the one my co-worker has, which is a 3/4 ton truck with the 6.4 Hemi. That thing gets 9 MPG, and he says he once, on his best day, got 13 MPG on the highway.

You've got a reliable truck with a rock solid engine and transmission. I have a 2018, and have had a couple ignorable quirks with the TSS, though I haven't tried to put a lift on it. Wait until the next gen Tundra comes out, I bet you'll wind up very happy you got a 2019. Just a hunch.

Thanks for the encouragement! I went with my gut feeling and hope I won’t regret it! This will be the first truck I’ve owned that doesn’t require wrenching on it every weekend! Reliability is what matters to me, I just want to lift it and still have the reliability is all. I will use it off-road a lot!

Have a 2018 Tundra with a MCM Fab mid trivel kit. I had a issue with the front sensor once after rain and snow. They said moisture got it the unit and replaced it. Took in for service today and the rep did not want to replace the sensor on recall since it had been performing properly. Sounded like they are still having some issues with the ones being replaced on recall. 20190218_070821.jpg
