inherited 2000 tundra 5.7 s5 looking for horse power

inherited 2000 tundra 5.7 s5 looking for horse power. got aftermarket exhaust. truck runs like hell now but i know it cant take much to get much more. just wondering which way to go 1st... cold air intake or chip. i know neither are very expensive. open minded to suggestions

 

Thought the 2000 was a 4.7... why do you need more power? For offroading, towing? It may help us guide you...

 

Its most likely the 4.7, although there are some swapped 5.7 first gens running around.

Long tube headers! and a full exhaust.

sorry guys got a 5.7 in my f150. it is a 4.7. like i said, it already has an aftermarket exhaust headers and duels. sounds awesome. 2wd was my father in laws would like to do a little something special to it... for the hell of it. cheep horse power is what im after. you know just something to beat chevys with.

 

Imo based on my camaros and jeeps; air in and air out should be the first modifications..

 

If its got headers you are set, the longtubes are good for about 20hp over the shorties tho. Airaid jr kit intake is cheap and easy intake system. If the trans hasnt been serviced in awhile a fluid change can really help the acceleration and shift times. There is the UniChip, but I have never had good luck with that.

 

There really isn't a whole lot you can do with these to add HP gains. Cheapest routes are the cold air intake and then the exhaust. You can buy a Unichip for small gains or get a programmer for larger gains. But dont expect much results for how expensive those are. And then if you happen to have a Japanese made 4.7 you can go with the supercharger mod, but that's pretty pricey as well.

 

I am with you on the 4.7 liter v8, they also had two v6s in 2000 a 3.4L or 4.0L

 

My afe intake really woke mine up. I'd like headers eventually.... but as of now mine runs pretty good with just an intake and exhaust and being maintained properly. 4.7 superchargers ae a joke... so lame compared to other models/engines
