Tundra for pulling an RV

Hi Everyone, We are looking to sell our Tacoma and buy a Tundra. Has anyone ever had any issue with pulling a 7000lb pull camper. which do you prefer the 4.6 or 5.7

5.7 is better to tow with.

 

Check the camper's rated hitch wt. It increases when you add propane tanks, battery and forward storage inside the camper. The Tundra's payload capacity varies with model:



Your payload = hitch wt + passengers + gear in your truck + (aftermarket truck mods eg; cap, tonneau)

7000lb dry is more when you pack the trailer, especially if you boondock and transport water. Only way to know accurate trailer wt and hitch wt is to have it done at a scale.

All said, you can probably do it, but imho, that's the upper limit of comfortable towing with a Tundra. It would be ideal if you got tow mirrors, air bags, brake controller, WDH, maybe a rear trailer camera, and heavy duty brakes.

What's uncomfortable as you go higher wt's is the amount of stopping distance, crosswinds swaying your trailer, and being nose high if the hitch wt is high, you lose some steering control, hence the need for WDH and air bags.

 

The 4.6 pulling 7000 plus pounds is gonna scream for mercy!
