New Tails and some bumper LED's

Just a quick shot of my new rear setup. The LED's in the bumper are tied to the reverse lights, with a switch inside the cab... This way, when we are pulling our boat out for the evening at the dark ramp, throw these things on and it daylight again.

 

I like the reverse lights. How difficult was it to mount those in the bumper?

 

Easy, 2 holes, then drill 8 holes for the mounting hardware... I used a Metabo with the cutting wheel. Just measure twice you only get one chance, this only took about an hour.

 

Spyder.. Black with clear lense

 

In my experience looking at spyder lights they suck at providing accurate pictures. Its like they are too lazy to take pics of the actual model for your vehicle. Most of the sites I see them on says something along the lines of "picture may not portray actual item".

 

This has got to be the best setup for additional rear lights. If ya don't mind my asking, how much were the lights?

 

$35ish on Amazon.com The brand is Nilight. They are very bright and seem to hold up well so far. I did this back in April, I just did the LED tails, thought I'd throw this pic up and cover the LED's in the bumper. These have been submerged as well, trying to rescue a dumbass at the boat ramp

Sometimes after I get done fishing I'll post up on my tailgate and drink a cold one while I watch all the idiots that have no idea what they are doing trying to launch and load their boats.

You wouldnt believe some of the shit I have seen over the years.

I have been tempted a few times to make a video on boat ramp etiquette and how not to be an asshole.

1. Load all your shit on the boat before you leave your house so you arent taking up the ramp for 20 mins.

2. Put the hose on the motor and crank it up the night before so you dont look like a dumbass with your boat in the water and and a motor that wont start.

Could go on and on but those 2 alone would make a hell of a difference.

 

You could sit there all day and be entertained... Watching guys scream at their wives and kids, watching boats roll right off the trailer, onto the lot. People fighting about taking too long. And best of all, people not knowing how to back up trailers.

 

Especially when they buy their boat after getting used to a backup camera! Hilarious.

 

Did you buy the Nilight offroad wire harness kit?

 

No, I make my own relay harnesses. I use solid state waterproof relays, and black wiring (easier to hide)

 

Looks great!! Been debating about doing this myself. A little nerve wracking cutting 2x2 inch holes in your bumper! LOL

 

Meh, take you time, measure twice. Draw it out in pencil, step back and look at it, once your happy that its straight, cut away. You can alos use the metal cutter wheels on a dremal. By far, one of the easier mods to complete.

 

Yeah, got a dewalt oscillating saw. Was going to use that and a grinder. Got the tools, just need the balls now LOL

 

Nothing to it... But I've been fabricating or (DIY'ing) for 20yrs now. I had a bagged and body dropped 97 Nissan Pickup. That was before you could buy a frame notch, or pre fabbed bag kits. Back when a custom build was just that. Not an ebay bolt on part... This is cake man, no balls necessary. Save them for something sick!!!

I've done plenty of projects and I have complete confidence in my ability. This is my first truck I've ever modded, therefore, my apprehension. I'll get over if once I make the first cut.

 

Good choice, I got the same taillights.

 

I'm always nervous before getting started, like the xfer case, front and rear fluids change. I put this off for about 2 years, finally did it. The whole thing took about 90mins lol. Kicked myself for not doing it earlier.

 

Anyone hooked these lights to you back up lights so you don't have to run a switch to the cab?? I have the same lights ordered.

 

I did, but also hooked a switch to them for independent operation as well.

 

I did as well. Spliced then straight into my reverse lights. 1.5 years and hadn't had the first issue. I also plan to install a switch one of these days

 

Quick question: when you didn't yours both ways, how did you wire them? When you turn the lights on with the button, do the reverse lights come on too?

 

Like the lights........Very smooth and sleek! I may have to give that a whirl some day. Maybe Santa will bring me some of dat? Oh hell, who am I kidding, I was horrible this year, I ain't gettin shit.

 

Yes, the reverse lights come on also, but I wanted them to.. I wanted the extra light. You will also need to run a diode inline so it will not backfeed 12v to the ECU. Otherwise you will get a check engine light. Its a code for the transmission being in one gear, but signaling like its in another. IE, my shifter was in Park, but the switch fed 12v to the backup lights and backfed the ecu, also lighting up the R in the PRNDL display. Then the trans electronics got confused and threw a code. So the diode lets 12v get to the lights from the reverse circuit, but doesnt let it run back from the lights to the ecu when the switch is on. A little redundant in my post here, just trying to be very clear in my explanation.
