I realize the Jeep Gladiator is not a full size, but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks about it and it's potential capabilities? May be thinking of selling my 19 Pro for one for Overlanding reasons. I know the Tundra is capable of Overlanding, but it's quite heavy as it sits already.

I am not a Jeep fan so I never even knew it was out.
I owned two of them that left a bad taste in my mouth about them.

    They look nice though.

Looks cool, but that seating position of the back seat look brutal to me. I’ve had two JK’s and loved the way they looked, but both had issues, not sure if I’d buy another.

    Keep the Tundra.

I bought my shell from this young couple when they moved to a FlipPak(?)

    https://www.ouroverlandlife.com/

They "overland" full time with the Tundra,. Taco, and a Airstream.

Love it! Had a JKU before my Tundra and enjoyed it. If I was in the market for a new vehicle it would be a tough choice between the Tundra and the Gladiator.

I have a gladiator on order for work, but I’d go with a Tacoma over the gladiator for overlanding needs. Bigger bed, more comfortable ride, better price tag.

That being said, the tundra I’ve been rolling in has been great on the trails and way more space than the Tacoma or gladiator.

They should actually make this one. I watched something on motortrend about, and it's just a concept, it will not go into production. I think this one is badass, that's saying alot coming from me, being I am not a jeep fan what so ever.

    Brian,
Love the stuff you guys are making for the Taco and Tundra. Can't wait to see what you have planned for the Gladiator.
I had 17 Trd Pro 4runner (wife has one still), traded in my 18 Pro Taco for the 19 Pro Tundra and just thinking about the Gladiator.
My boss ordered a Rubicon from one of the local dealers for under invoice, so I'll see what it is like when it arrives and go from there.

Thanks for your input. You make a lot of good points.
If I was to get the Gladiator, it would be the Rubicon for the things you mentioned. I don't think they look right without a lift. However, you can put 35s on a stock Rubicon Gladiator. It does have a 1600 lb payload. My plan would be a Go Fast Camper, which I think weighs 250 lbs and possibly the Decked drawer system if it won't interfere the the outlet in the bed.

The Tacoma is not what it used to be sadly. I’ve owned 1st gen, 2nd gen, and just traded in my 3rd gen. The 3rd gen is a sorry excuse for a truck. The transmission ruins everything on it sadly. After trading it in for a 1st gen Tundra I forgot what it was like to have a vehicle that can actually drive and not rev into 4000 rpm for no reason. I would get a Gladiator over a Tacoma any day. It’s going to have way better after market support and for way cheaper. Want a aftermarket Tacoma bumper get ready to spend 1500. Want a Gladiator bumper with led light, sliders, and rear bumper with leds. Get ready to spend 1800 for everything. Want to throw on 35s?? No problem easy swap. Wanna do that on the Tacoma?? Where do we cut?? Only thing I don’t like about the Gladiator is the smaller bed size. Otherwise it’s going to kick every trucks ass in off-roading. But if you wanna mall crawl sure buy the Tacoma.

I don't own either of these vehicles, so maybe a little perspective from the outside, if you will.

In factory form, not much out on the market today that will out perform a Jeep "whatever" Rubicon edition off road. However, let's compare the two a little closer.

Tundra TRD Pro curb weight 5640 lbs.
Jeep Gladiator Rubicon curb weight 5072 lbs, so not a huge weight difference, if that's what was assumed.

Power and torque differences are pretty substantial for sure. 285 vs 381 (and the potential for 550 reliable HP)

Payload is won by the Pro. What? Of course they advertise 1600 lbs payload, but in reality, on a Rubicon it's 1190 lbs and the Overland Edition is even lower at 1140 lbs. That blows ass when you start loading up equipment.

Towing- the Overland Edition is 6000 lbs and the Rubicon is 7000 lbs. PRO is 9800 lbs.

Rear seating in the JL, JK, Gladiator all sucks ass. Not sure if you ever attempted to get into one, but that can get rather sporty if you ever lift it and put bigger rubber on. Pro is CM only, easy win.

Reliability. Now I live in Jeep country, and don't see Jeeps all over the side of the road. Mainly it's Subaru's that never get maintained. That being said, I have owned a Jeep or two and if you are not ok with CEL or the little quirks of the Jeep life, these are not for you. I have had a CEL light on my TJ since 80K miles. I'm at 104K miles now and still have it on.

Size: Gladiator wins this, but not as much as one might think. I would rather have something comfortable and capable than just capable.

    https://www.jeep.com/compare/detailed-chart.gladiator.2020.html#pricing

    https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2019-T...4x4_CrewMax_5.6_ft._box_145.7_in._WB/pricing/

Price, on paper the Gladiator is a little cheaper. I would like to see someone that has purchased a new Gladiator for 45K. Pretty sure @1UPPER said his wife's Jeep G cost over 60K. Knowing him, all options were ordered and he has a wild build planned already.

If I had to chose one of the two, it would be the Pro, even living in tight Jeep trail's Colorado.

Love the Gladiators, as well as the Wrangler Unlimited (4dr). Was hard set on buying one just a few months back but they were still too proud of the 2018s that were still hanging around, so I told them where they could stick their precious JLU and went bakc with Tundra!

However, I became very interested in the Gladiator as I was getting deeper into the Wrangler scene. I also agree with the earlier post from Watt Maker that I'm impressed that with as small as a 2in lift, you can run massive 37s with no trimming or rubbing issues. However, considering how proud Jeep are of their 2018 Wranglers and such, they are going to be equally, if not more, proud/stubborn on pricing of the Gladiators. Especially with them just hitting the lots. That said, I plan to wait it out and let the initial hype runs it's course on them, then hopefully snag a somewhat decent deal on a 2020 in the next few years. No, the Gladiator isn't a full size like our Tundras and may not stack up in that area, but I'm really excited about that whole open-air truck feature, which is also another reason I dig the Wranglers so much.

    My 2 cents

Cool truck, awesome off-road capabilities, but I’d never take a gamble with any FCA car/truck.

    @ColoradoTJ

As Chris stated above, I’ve got a Jeep Gladiator Launch Edition on order. Mine does have almost every option they offer, so that’s why the sticker price is so high. I do have a large build planned for it. Working on getting cost to do a Hellcat swap on it. Having 707hp under the hood would be a lot of fun! Still doing my research and planning out the my build process though. Dynatrac has already done a Hellcat swap and cut the rear cab off on this Gladiator. There are some very cool aftermarket parts being designed for this new platform. I already have my order number for my Gladiator but I likely won’t see it till August-September. Patiently waiting. 4DF4ABBD-69A3-4639-80ED-84D97D1CF625.jpg

We ordered a Sport S, with a max tow package. That gets wider axles and 4.10 gears. It’s $45,500 msrp. We could have bought a Pro taco for that money.

I think price is what will kill the gladiator from stealing sales away.
