After almost 5yrs oem took a dump. Had to extend wires because a reverse post wasn't available. Works great.

Thats how you do it. You make it work.

When i got my tundra it had one of the more common walmart/autozone batts. It looked old and it was actually still working properly but i hate trusting something you nothing about.

I got an exide extreme from home depot. I would guess they are owned by Johnson C. now. Either way, had to make it fit. For $100 and a decent warranty (which i cant remember) im happy.

I agree. I was going to get a NSB but they weren't in production at the time and my stock needed jumping off to start.

All this talk of OEM battery failures made me think i better replace my 4 year old one.
Just ordered one of these. Always had great success with Advanced Auto.

Thought I would hook into this topic. Looking at a battery to replace the OEM, Toyota quoted me OEM replacement for $172. Batteries+ had a Duracell for $139, just noticed Sam's Club had the exact same model for $99 (including the 36 month warranty). Seems to be a very competitive price, but not convinced about the build quality. Then again, it does have the 36 month warranty.

Alternative for me would be Interstate MTP-27F but they are $149.

    Anyone bad experiences with Duracell?

I love the Northstar and the GP Audio terminals. Cleaned everything up nicely.

Remove the Allen bolt and grease the bolt and the socket of the terminal where the head of the Allen sits into. This made all the difference for me to "cinch" it down tight. The grease allows the bolt to turn and not bind on the terminal, thus easier to tighten. I also cut the terminals down to four taps so it fit better.

Put the same one from Advance Auto in my 2015.
AGM is THE way to go, particularly for off-roading...or driving down my road with tons of potholes....

I’m about ready to dump my stock battery. I’m leaning towards the X2. I’m just bouncing back and forth wondering if it’s worth spending the amount on a battery? There are not a ton of 27f AGM options that I can find.

All I know for sure is that if you use a battery for more than 3 years out here in the high desert, you are on borrowed time. I have been lucky. I have used the Autozone brand with the 36 month warranty. Anything beyond that is pro rated at failure.

The truck got 4 years out of the OEM (I got 2). Put an interstate in and expect 4 out of it

That’s the same one I went with too. Beefy battery and it started the Tundra like a champ! My pos oem only lasted a little over a year. It wasn’t worth it for me to get it warrantied only to have it die again. I’d rather have long lasting piece of mind.

My OEM is still ok but I can’t run my ditch lights/rock lights and the radio for 30 min w/o my truck going dead (to start) so upgraded to the Optima

Northstar's are what the Navy uses in many applications. A gel battery with a lot of upsides. Frequent Northstar group buys on TacomaWorld or T4R websites. I've had two of them over the years. Exceptional!

X2 is the same battery as the Northstar just rebranded. Plus, it comes with an extra 1 year warranty.

I want to add those terminals soooo badly even tho I don't have anything other than stock battery cables to attach to them. It looks so clean!

Thanks! I used the stock cables. The only modifications were: I cut the terminals down to 4 posts instead of 6, and I just drilled the negative bar so that it spanned across 2 of the post lugs. The other wiring is stereo and lights.

I put it in a vice and used a jigsaw with a fresh blade, on a slow speed. It took about 5-7 minutes for each terminal.

This just happened! I got quite an education on the evolution of Northstar/XS batteries and what makes them so good.
