So the other day I kept getting a “wrong image” error on my bullydog, called BD and they said do a uninstall/reinstall, kept getting a error 524, they said “oh pack up ur unit & ecm and overnight it to us”. Like it was no big deal? Wtf.. And of course FedEx overnight priority means I ship it Wednesday morning and they’ll get it Monday (FedEx is a joke) side note: got tires from California to philly that I bought Thursday arrived this morning from UPS ground. Anyway, what can I expect from this? I have the TRD supercharge flash and I’m assuming best case is they ship it back and it’s fine, but what’s worst case? Also, any precautions when reinstalling? Disconnect battery? Just any help or experience would be great.

Which Bullydog programmer are you using? Does your Bullydog programmer allow you to look at anything on it? Or is it just giving the error message?

Not supercharged here but I do run a bullydog and last thanksgiving the damn thing ate my ecu. Was on the phone with the tech for 2 hours and in the end decided to pull the ecu and send it to them. Sent it out on Wednesday had it back by Friday pre-loaded with the programs I wanted. Spent 20 minutes stuffing it back in the truck hooked bat. back up and it started right up and perfect ever since.
Have zero idea why it did what it did and I do not remember the code it was throwing, that’s in the past I guess. In the end I just looked at it like a computer that decides one day it wants to take a break.
I will say the guy I dealt with at Bullydog was a ton of help and they turned it around in a big damn hurry.

Running the performance tune on gt. The BD was fine sometimes and showing “wrong image” sometimes. But was fine other then that. Seemed like whenever I installed the tune it would run like “scary fast” with the mods Iv done for a few days, then it would slowly go back to stock. Always thought it was in my head until I downloaded a logger with the Tesla HU I have and it would show the change.

I appreciate the info, wasn’t sure how rare it is that they ask for ppl to ship in they’re ecm. Your experience gives me some confidence. All in one day my tundra did this, my Titan seems to have a bad connection to the starter and wouldn’t start, so I have a Lexus that I never drive (dead battery), then the wife leaves her lights on her lifted bronco and is waiting while I race around looking for a vehicle to get to her. When it rains it pours

They also pay for the shipping both ways. They will email you the shipping tag. They verify VIN and how you want it programmed and set up the BD and ECU so like I said as so as you get it back, you install it and turn the key.
I know the feelings your going through but they made it easy. Good luck.

I plan on asking but do u know if they do any custom tuning? I had a beefed up Racing trans added, a smaller URD SC pulley, headers, a borla/TRD hybrid exhaust all added and I believe it’s all for nothing without tuning

Doubt it, they send you something that is different than what they have tested and shit starts going south for you and they will have issues.
Your best bet with all that hardware added is find yourself a speed shop that can tune your truck with the HP Tune files. You spend enough time reading through some of the threads around here and you will find out that one truck is not the same as the next. Being N/A I don’t worry about it too much but running blowers, pulleys changed out headers/exhaust throws a different challenge.
I know we all like power and more is always better but these 5.7’s start to feel the pressure when you start pushing the HP envelope. Cleaning up the program for your engine to run reliable and still have a ton of HP is what you won’t get from a canned tuned like bulldog. It’s a tune for the masses, best way is get a personnel tune from a speed shop and you tell them what you want to use it for and if they are good you will get what you pay for.

When I called Bully dog for a custom tune they said no. I had to remove my Bullydog tuner, get a HP tuner installed by a shop and then have it custom tuned. I went down the same road as you and I had to do the custom route.
