Is there any options for push button start and “touch” handle unlocking of door?? My mod priorities have changed after 9 days of reaching in my pocket to unlock and putting a key in the ignition. Yes I’m lazy and have been spoiled by having a key fob on last 2 vehicles.

I looked into this as well and haven't found anything. But maybe somebody can chime in.

I hear the 2020 are coming with push to start. Some taco guys were able to mod the passenger doors to unlock the same way just reaching in door handle to unlock. But that requires sensors and wiring. So when 2020 tundra come out you may be able to order sensors and wire it in.

My wife has a Lexus and I know how you feel sometimes. I don’t have a solution for you and if you don’t come across one, maybe this will brighten your dismay:

Would love to hear how this works. I just traded in my 17’ Tacoma with the unlock handle and smart button. The tundra key is driving me mad. Especially because we traded in the Tacoma because we have a 1 month old baby and need the room. Gained a bunch of room but require fumbling with a key to unlock truck

Flinky14 I know the feeling, I did a bit of research last night and the advancedkey system has a good bit of history. You still have a few quirks to deal with since it is rfid when you get about 3’ away it unlocks. So if you are walking around doing various stuff in your yard or something the truck may unlock and lock a hundred times. Years back some reviews mentioned a potential drain on your battery since the system is always on waiting on the rfid signal. Where a factory system is not activated until you touch a handle. There are also several other systems out there and some on Amazon for only $120. Reviews are from excellent to not so good. I’m gonna keep looking and studying up, hopefully find a fool proof system. Most videos on YouTube for the advancedkey are at least 6 years old so there has to be some updated technology and a system that’s easy to install and performs great.

I had the 2016 Tacoma and while it was a nice truck, the only thing I miss is push button start and the sensor unlocking. I can't stand reaching in my pocket for a key. I recently bought my Tundra and I love this truck, but I was considering the Titan and the push button start was actually a consideration for me.

Had it on my Turd gen Tacoma and dont miss it. I actually prefer the tactility of being able to turn the key and more or less manually manipulate the starting mechanism.

Im all about push button, its quite convenient to not have to dig in my pocket to unlock and start it. It wasnt a deal breaker for me, obviously I bought the Tundra... but i find having to use a key annoying.

I never thought I'd say this, but with the wife's '15 Camry having the Smartkey system I find myself wanting it too. Having an over-sensitive amputated fingertip and another hand surgery a couple weeks ago makes digging in a pocket for keys a bit more of an issue.

Push start is nice and fancy until u drive off with no keys and are fucked if u turn off your car. My wife has done this shit a couple times and then I have to take her the keys.

Oh. I didn’t realize you could drive off without the key. Or maybe that’s a setting that can be changed.

Before changing anything give yourself a month. Especially considered you're barely into the warranty period...

I too missed the same features you're looking for, but after about the month mark I don't even consider it anymore. You adapt.

    FWIW.

PS: Something I do NOT miss is having to press the brake to start. That proved more a PITA than I expected, especially if you like cleaning/working on your cars or have a passenger who wants to run the AC/heater while you run into the store. And/or the listen to the radio and not hear the dingdingding warning the fob is gone because you didn't dig it out of your pocket. And/or listen to the radio for more than X minutes (during said work/cleaning) before the thing shuts itself off because it assumes you forgot. Tradeoffs.

I don’t understand this push start fad as I grew up in the days of reaching down to the lower dash to turn a key and pull start lawnmowers but to each their own I suppose ‍♂️

I had the dealer install a push button start and I live it.
Another thing it does is keyless entry. When i get within a certain range it unlocks, i get in push the button and go.
When i get out, I push to stop, get out and walk away and it locks itself.
    I understand about the key.
I wish Toyota a least made a button on the door handle to unlock when you get close.
I never take the fob out of my pocket.

I'm not sure how you can drive off without the key fob as it has to be in proximity with the fob to even get in (if the doors are locked) and for the push start to work.

So, if you start the car, walk away, leave the key in the house (or somewhere else) you can just drive away?
I know some cars will lock if the key gets to far away. keeping the driver or someone else from getting in.
They should put a distance range on the fob if you do (or someone else drive off maybe it should do a soft stop, (for safety reasons)

I have had push button for over 4 years and love it.
Now, my wifes new car (3 months, 2019 Genesis G80) has not had an issue, YET LOL.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.
