Gonna see if this thread gets some interest and stays alive. If not oh well

thanks man! just trying my best. actually looking into ceramic coating it since having 2 young kids, my time is precious. I'll still wash her and the van, but wanting/needing more time with the family. so taking a whole day to detail a vehicle the way i want is getting difficult. oh well...priorities

I had mine ceramic coated back in January. I haven’t been impressed with it, but I honestly think the guy just did a bad job. I certainly haven’t seen the benefits others have.

So a friend of ours' son just got Ceramic Pro trained and certified. He is wanting to get going. I'm thinking if I like what I hear from him in a couple weeks and a price is close to what I'm willing to spend, I'll give it a shot. Only people I have heard of that weren't impressed or happy with it usually found someone to do it for ridiculously cheap, and kinda got what they paid for. Not saying this if your case, but others I've talked to/read about have said this. We'll see. I've considered doing it myself, but don't know 100% in my confidence in doing it. Plus, I'd need to have quite a bit of time blocked off to do it correctly.

I paid a dirt cheap price, but I won’t say “I got what I paid for”. I’d planned to do it myself, and had bought everything I needed. I just never got the time.
The hardest part is getting your paint corrected beforehand. I have polishers, products, and pads I’ve accumulated, but I’ve yet to get enough experience to feel confident with it.
I finally decided to hire someone to do the correction for me. Then I would go behind and apply the ceramic myself. The price I was quoted for correction was I think around $350.00, which is about the going rate for what I needed, and he had great reviews.
A week or so before my appointment, he called and asked if I had any of the CQuartz he could buy from me. He had a coating to do, but his order hadn’t come in. Long story short, I exchanged a bottle of ceramic for him going ahead and applying mine after the correction.

It looked great at first and I was happy. That said, it was in January, and really overcast outside for the next couple of months. Once the sun really started coming out, I noticed he’d left holograms all over the truck. The coating didn’t seem to be performing to my expectations either. I think he may have put way too little on.
He has offered to come and redo it at no charge, but at this point I don’t want him doing it again. I’m back to where I started. I plan to do another correction and apply it myself like I originally planned.

@War Machine he laid it on too thin you are correct. He may have been trying to stretch the product idk. I will say although I do not use ceramic coatings when done right they work amazingly. My buddy hasn't fully washed his car in 6 months and it looks like he fully details it every week. He just maintains. Also people that do it them selves or own a detailing company will put on multiple layers. That same buddy put 3 layers on his. I want to buy some and start off trying it on my roof and see how it goes.

Yeah, that’s what I figure. What sucks is I gave him the CQuartz. He shouldn’t have been trying to stretch it.

^^^ that's what makes me think that. Maybe he had another car to do and he was trying to use the free product to do two jobs. IDK but don't give up on it. Also another thing I have noticed the detailers that are pumping out cars are doing is not completing all the steps on the bottom 1/4 of cars. They assume people wont touch it or notice it. It save them time and product and is complete crap. This is why I want to learn how to apply ceramic properly myself

wow man! Yea from what you're saying, i would venture to say that he put very little on. unfortunate cuz that stuff is difficult to take off once cured. but not everyone can have an excellent experience unfortunately. at least he offered to fix it, but i would have prob made the same decision as you. sorry to hear man. keep me updated how it went to get it fixed/redone.

Yeah, I gave him two bottles. One for his other job, one for mine. Had he not left the holograms, it would have been easy enough to go behind him and add a coat.

I don’t know when I’ll get around to doing it, but I’ll definitely post my results. I plan to try correcting my daughter’s Tundra first. I drove it before I got my new one, and back then I used mostly drive through automatic washes. It doesn’t show imperfections as much as my black one, but it does need work.
